me and my wife are on the side of keeping things simple and private, we do spend time with each other on this day but nothing more special than our anniversary or birthdays, those are more important for us, on Valentines we usually go out with the kids and eat outside something simple, I do get her a present usually let her choose instead of been a surprise, we are very alike in that sense but I can understand how modern society have turn Valentines into a business

It's the same with us as well. If we can celebrate it's fine but there are no special plans ever made for these days. Sometimes I do not prefer going out on these days because the prices everywhere are hyped up and there is barely any value for money. Since past many years for New Year's eve also we have stopped going out for these fancy parties, we prefer doing a house party with close friends and celebrate.
I think as you get older all these ways of celebrations change and you want to make them meaningful rather than fancy.
