It is different to receive criticism at 15 than at 50.
When we are in adolescence, childhood and the control of our parents is still very close. But; At that time, learning correct social behavior is the most important thing for our lives. Okay; that is true for the vast majority of adolescents, there are always exceptions.
In our adult life, the younger we are, the more we depend on our appearance and on the opinion of us by those we value. In the latter is the key to understanding our reaction to criticism; Well, if we receive a negative criticism from someone we admire or love, that opinion will influence us and perhaps we will modify our behavior due to that unfavorable opinion that we have caused.

But; in my case, I am no longer young and - how interesting! - Now I care very little what people think of me.
Do not believe that for this reason I will perceive myself as an extraordinary being. On the contrary, it is very normal that, as the decades go by, with the passing of the years we care less about criticism of ourselves.
But beware, each one of us should develop the ability to evaluate ourselves according to our ethical principles. As an ancient wise man of humanity said; First of all, know yourself. Be honest with yourself, don't lie to yourself.
It is the most difficult, for example, to recognize that most of the time we act motivated to obtain our own benefit. And that doesn't have to embarrass us, that's fine. Although, we will probably receive criticism if we harm someone close by seeking the benefit only for ourselves.
On the other hand, our behavior can be harmful to those around us. In those cases, if we ignore the criticism we receive, it should also not surprise us when we receive sanctions for it.
To conclude, I will say that, although my age has an influence, it is my principles that guide my behavior and not the opinion of others. Perhaps my point of view can be interpreted as arrogance. I'll explain it a bit.

I have a fundamental principle: defend all life. Life as a single whole. Plants, animals, all human beings... Even microbes have my consideration!!!
From this fundamental principle my other principles are derived... for example, preserving diversity. Values are the means by which these principles are preserved and achieved.
Respect is for me the fundamental value in all interrelation of life.
When there is no respect, in my opinion, that interrelation will be harmful.
And with my peers I do not trade respect. If there is no respect I do not establish or maintain any relationship.

I totally agree on this based on personal experiences :) As we grow older, we tend to divert our energy and attention to things that matter most.

Thank you for sharing your experience and thoughts :) Have a lovely weekend!

It sure takes a long time to become wise.
