It's just an example of how complex I find this discussion about interpretation.
As I said there is nothing to interpret, Roman Salute and Nazi Salute are both the same thing used by fascists. There is no interpretation of it any other way in the modern day.
That excuse would only fool people who don't know what the Roman Salute is, and it has done its job.
