I took this photo a few blocks from my house on the way home today. I was surprised to see this light with the flag controlling traffic when one of the two lanes was blocked. Normally there is a real person, holding a sign with STOP on one side and GO on the other.

This somehow reminded me of an accident I witnessed on the road.
I had to help with traffic so that cars could pass away from the accident. That was a difficult day.
That was good of you to stop and help.
Yes, you might see something that looks similar to this if there was an accident. Fortunately this time, they are trying to get ahead of possible bad weather. Trying to keep the tree limbs from interfering with the power lines.
Heavy rains usually knock down trees, I know what that's like.
I hope everything is fine and that the people responsible did a great job.
If they didn't do a good job, they will have a much harder job to do after the next storm. :)
Ouch! 😖
It is quite neat and innovative and might be common other places, but I had never seen it before. Two more human jobs given over to progress? Not that I'd love standing out all day holding a sign. I was fascinated, but it still made me wonder.
Our case will also have at least 2 personnel coordinating this kind of lane closures.
Who’s in control of the flag?
I have no idea since it is the first time I ever saw such a thing. I wondered where the controller was myself !
I've seen those over the years but usually on longer jobs that are more remote. Usually if the crews are going to be gone overnight or the weekends.
They could be all around in other places, but seeing this was a first for me. These crews were trimming an area and then moving forward a bit and starting over. I was surprised too when it seemed they were still working after dark. These days, it is nearly dark by 5:20 though.
