I think a lot of clarity can come from reducing things down to lower levels. As such, when I explain blockchains to those who don't understand I tend to describe them first as super databases that store certain information.

Hadn't thought about it that way, but that's a good approach!
I use a library as an analogy to explain about blockchain & more so about this place.
That's a good analogy too.
I find they can usually understand that, to a certain extent, a little bit better than the idea of a digital currency which has been conjured out of nothing.
