Sadly, yes, we have seen it before. Very child like - I do try to extend compassion for their inability to moderate their reaction but can't say I don't also let out a sweary sigh! 🤪 People feel the need to defend their identity without realizing it's about their actions.

Sort:

Imagine those thinking their identity depends on a disobeying a few rules and lashing back with a DV on Hive ... but as I am coming to realize in middle age, one has to account for how much of our identity is made up by our consistent choice of actions in adult life.

'I post what I want' aka 'I do what I want' - smacks of selfishness to me. Imagine hitting middle age and not realising what we do for others and having a degree of humility is more important than 'doing what we want'.

And, unfortunately, "I do what I want" is a large part of some people's sense of identity. They are often still getting back at whoever it is they feel either held them back in childhood or whoever they feel is not letting them play God now.

IDefinitely some trauma speaking! I can't help consider how my personal freedoms might affect others - I guess not everyone operates that way. Us humans are indeed a funny lot.

A funny lot -- PERFECT description.
