The Word: Community

Etymology
From Late Middle English communite, borrowed from Old French communité, comunité, comunete (modern French communauté), from Classical Latin commūnitās (“community; public spirit”) from commūnis (“common, ordinary; of or for the community, public”) + -itās (ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *-teh₂ts (“suffix forming nouns indicating a state of being”)). Commūnis is derived from con- (“prefix indicating a being or bringing together of several objects”) (from cum (“with”), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *ḱóm (“along, at, next to, with”)) + mūnus (“employment, office, service; burden, duty, obligation”) (ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *mey- (“to change, exchange”)). Ostensibly equivalent to commune +‎ -ity. Doublet of communitas.

communite
second-person, plural, present, active, imperative of commūniō

commūniō f (genitive commūniōnis); third declension

  1. communion (all senses)
  2. association, fellowship, community

From con- +‎ mūniō.

mūniō (present infinitive mūnīre, perfect active mūnīvī or mūniī, supine mūnītum);

  1. to provide with defensive works, fortify
  2. (of soldiers or sim.) to guard from attack, defend
  3. to strengthen, secure
  4. to protect with a covering
  5. to safeguard, uphold or buttress (of a person, institution, etc.
  6. to defend, protect, secure
  7. to build up so as to give a firm surface to, to construct or repair (of a road, other raised areas)

The Question: Why is it, that most folks are running behind the rich and even looking for ways to abuse the system, without understanding what a community actually is?

In 2018 when i joined there where more and more folks asking demanding some community features, which i didn't really understood, since to me (then still) Steem was already a community?!

The big fascistic exchange started... and ended in a Rosenkrieg, all because of "money". Good part of it for most: it doubled all the blockchain's crypto in a second.

When communities arrived, it didn't change the way this blockchain is working... Still too much folks are up the arse of the "rich" kings and queens and their curators. Wondering how we may could get a change of mind, i created "my own" community... <see what i did there

Though as long as one is not spending 24/7 advertising and supporting with one's own wallet, there was not much or even less interest in this. Not even from the people posting in the community. No support whatsoever... just looking for some big upvote. That's it!

And since i'm definitely not the person to go lick some to get me support of the one's deciding what's good and what not. My community never became "known". Folks stopped writing, since it didn't bring them the big votes their here for.

Most do everything to get the BIG upvote from the hive... I know, sometimes it's necessary to be a whore (Rule Nr. 69 on the road). Especially when you wanna live with the money it can make you. And with a lot of compromises included, this even works.

"Today" many are talking about on-boarding new users... to bring the fakebookers, twatters and all other social media cRyborgs over to this "decentralized" blockchain.

Though as long as this system isn't freed of all the fascistic thinking, muting "free speech" just because some Watcher doesn't agree with one's ideology, most "normies" can't be bothered to come over here.

And to make a writer, artist or gamer out of everyone isn't working either. So, no wonder there is so much crappy content. Recycled knowledge in one and a million other words... for the sake of money?!

I am not really convinced of how HIVE works ... for example in an ideal social network votes should be weighted according to the expertise/(real) reputation of a voter, but not depending on their stake ... there are so many things to criticize, which I often did (for example also that many downvotes don't fulfill their original purpose of fighting against spam, plagiarism and over rewarded posts, but are used to silence different opinions or attack other users, partly in an automated way, completely independent of the content).
The above is especially bad as voting power is rather centralized, mainly in the hands of some early miners, former bid bot owners and witnesses who know each other and dominate the chain since 2016, while there aren't any mechanisms (like AI based evaluations of downvotes or committees of respected users) to prevent the abuse of flags.

On the other side, even after a long search, I STILL didn't find any really good alternative blockchain based social media site: the concurrents of HIVE (which for example has the advantages of fast, fee free transactions and user names instead of complicated addresses to receive money) are even worse, which means that for now I just might stay here. :-)

Ditto, yep, yep, agreed, my thought as well, and yep... The potential is definitely not driven to it's full. And for now i'll stay too, just to see if there might be a change of spirit one day. Hehehe

Dear friend... yes, Hive is a community, no doubt. It's not a friends, nor non profit community though... It has always been a group of people trying to increase their income. I won't tell on no one for this. This was and this will be...
The world is ill? yes... are we ill? yes. We cannot see the real world but the world that is shown to us. This began just more than ten thousand years ago when someone realized that he/she could exploit the "system" or he/she could take advantage from others... nothing has changed since. We need several global disasters to get to know what really life is about, we won't see this change happen and guess there are some thousand years and global disasters ahead to reach the point.
I don't blame no one, I respect others, their views and ways to live. That's my credo, it always was and will be. I love people but sometimes I also feel sick when looking at some attitudes but, hey, we are only humans and we have a lot to learn before we surpass this fact.

Hola Drake... good to see you are still around. hehe...

You said it all... nothing to add. Hopefully the masses will rediscover what we are = Nature !

The Question: Why is it, that most folks are running behind the rich and even looking for ways to abuse the system, without understanding what a community actually is?

"We all came for the slogan 'Write and earn' something similar. And because of that, they write things that please the curator, but that no one is interested in."

In 2018 when i joined there where more and more folks asking demanding some community features,

Sure, with so many different topics, it's difficult to find posts on a specific subject, especially when people don't use tags or use them incorrectly.

which i didn't really understood, since to me (then still) Steem was already a community?!

For me, community is a place where people with similar ideas come together for a single objective. And here, perhaps everyone's objectives are very different.

Decentralised - was the hook i took. Then the communities didn't really solve the "find a specific subject" problem, since most folks still have no clue how to use tags and/or didn't even read the community guidelines. justSaying... hehehe

As long as we humans aren't able to live in peace in real life, no tool will change that for us... proper rEvolution is working only in a free mind.

Thanks for the read and your comment, much appreciated!

Regarding tags, I was referring to this, which many people do:

Yeah, i gotcha... the "money making tags". Too many people do that for sure. The only thing i would kinda get on these is: "Aha, something music something..." :smirk:

This is not fair play... they all work together to build something beautiful and that's not what we are talking about! ... well maybe we actually are 😛

I am using this blockchain since one month. i have reservations about how HIVE functions. In an ideal social network, votes should be based on a user's expertise or real reputation rather than their stake. In certain aspects, such as downvotes not always serving their intended purpose and being used to suppress opinions or attack users, sometimes in an automated manner.
