It is impressive how sometimes opportunities come along in life and we let them pass us by out of fear or insecurity. This phrase said by Chamalú expresses it very well "Fear is a thief... It robs us of the pleasure of living". I had to learn it a little late. But this experience taught me that sometimes we have to throw ourselves into the tank and be quite daring. A few days ago at my school a young man came to give us a talk. Nobody knew what it was about. But his introduction to the subject was very unusual, he asked us who wanted to own a house or a car and we all raised our hands, yes who wanted to be successful. He told us that unfortunately not all of us are going to make it. That life is not served on a silver platter and this world is not made for everyone. No one was born special. The only people who achieve things in this life are the optimists and those who don't give up. After giving that not very motivating introduction, he gave his life experience and how he decided one day not to be just another one of the bunch. He studied marketing and also took a public speaking course. And he said why couldn't he combine those skills. And he started giving free talks at schools and universities so that they would know him. And today he has a Public Speaking Institute where he gives courses that give incredible results and his company that directs sales to the most important companies in the country.
Es impresionante como a veces llegan oportunidades en la vida y uno por miedo o inseguridad las deja pasar. Esta frase dicho por Chamalú lo expresa muy bien ”El miedo es un ladrón… Nos roba el placer de vivir”. Me tocó aprenderlo un poco tarde. Pero esta experiencia me enseño que a veces tenemos que lanzarnos al tanque y ser bastante audaces. Hace días en mi colegio fue un joven a darnos una charla. Nadie sabía de qué era. Pero fue muy inusual su introducción al tema, nos preguntó quién quería tener una casa propia o un auto propio y todos alzamos la mano, en sí quien quería ser exitoso. Nos dijo que lamentablemente no todos vamos a lograrlo. Que la vida no está servida en bandeja de plata y este mundo no está hecho para todos. Nadie nació siendo especial. Las únicas personas que logran cosas en esta vida son los optimistas y los que no se rinden. Luego de dar esa introducción poco motivadora, dio su experiencia de vida y de como el decidió un día no ser uno más del montón. El estudió mercadeo y además hizo un curso de oratoria. Y dijo por qué no podría combinar esos conocimientos. Y empezó fue dando charlas gratis en colegio o universidades para que lo conocieran. Y hoy en día tiene un Instituto de Oratoria donde dicta cursos que dan increíbles resultados y su empresa que le dirige las ventas a las empresas más importantes del país.

And that was to win us a completely free 3-month diploma course at his institute. When I heard that, I couldn't believe it. Because I didn't plan on taking a public speaking course, but I realized that it's an important tool to develop yourself professionally. And I said, this must be a sign and a great opportunity to take advantage of it.
Ahora contaré que papel juego, yo, en toda esta charla. Al finalizar la charla él dijo “¿Quién me puede dar una opinión de todo lo que he dicho en esta charla?”. De un tiempo para acá he empezado a tomar la iniciativa o ser la primera en decir algo. Así que me levanté y yo ni sabía que iba a decir, pero me arriesgué. Un amigo también se animó. Y nos sorprendió la increíble oportunidad que nos ganamos, solo por animarnos a hablar enfrente de todos nuestros compañeros. Y fue ganarnos un diplomado en su instituto completamente gratis de 3 meses. Yo cuando escucho eso, no me lo podía creer. Porque en mis planes no estaba hacer un curso de oratoria, pero me di cuenta que es una herramienta importante para desarrollarte en el ámbito profesional. Y dije, esto debe ser una señal y una gran oportunidad hay que aprovecharla.

And I want to explain what public speaking is. Because I imagine that many of you must not have a very good grasp of the concept, I didn't either until I went to my first diploma class. The basic concept they give us is the art of public speaking. But isn't there more? Yes, there is. At ICOR (Institute of Communication and Public Speaking) they handle the concept of public speaking a little differently, as the series of elements and techniques capable of communicating and generating influence based on the communication we have with others. It is important to know that it is not How do you say it? or What do you say? but Who says it? One of the indispensable things that a speaker must have is the ability to influence others. And I will learn these basics as the course progresses.
Y quiero explicar que es la oratoria. Porque me imagino que muchos no deben manejar muy bien el concepto, yo tampoco lo hacía hasta que fui a mi primera clase del diplomado. El concepto básico que nos dan, es, el arte de hablar en público. Pero ¿No hay más? Pues sí, si hay. En ICOR (Instituto de Comunicación y Oratoria) manejan el concepto de la oratoria un poco diferente, como, la serie de elementos y técnicas capaces de comunicar y generar influencia en base a la comunicación que tengamos con otros. Es importante saber que no es ¿Cómo lo dices? o ¿Qué es lo que dices? sino ¿Quién lo dice? Una de las cosas indispensables que tiene que tener el orador es la capacidad de influenciar los demás. Y esas bases las iré aprendiendo a medida que avance el curso.

The first class was very meaningful, I met very interesting and different people. We are a group of different ages, goals and even professions. But we are united by something and it is the search to grow as people that we have in common. I am a person who is excited to meet new people or changes because you don't know what you can learn from each person and just by listening to each experience. I am very excited about this course. I will let you know how I am doing along the way.
La primera clase fue muy significativa, conocí personas muy interesantes y diferentes. Somos un grupo de diferentes edades, objetivos y hasta profesiones. Pero nos une algo y es la búsqueda de crecer como personas lo que tenemos en común. Soy una persona que me emociona conocer personas nuevas o los cambios porque no sabes lo que puedes aprender de cada persona y solo con escuchar cada experiencia. Estoy muy animada con este curso. Les iré avisando como me va en el transcurso.
