Avatar Whippie 008: @corvidae

Portrait of a Poet

I know I usually make like a super shitty grid and then I sarcastically say how meticulous I was about making the grid...but this time I actually really kind of tried to make a nice clean grid. @corvidae is super cool and has such a striking avatar, I really wanted this whippie to feel more like a detailed reproduction...not saying you all don't have lovely avatars, because you do! ...it's just that I should be improving my process as I go along.

That said, I still didn't get a super clean grid, it was just mildly better than the ones preceding it.

For this one, I thought starting with the shape of the hair and face would be the best way to anchor my composition to the page.

Next I tried to capture that sideways glance in the eyes.

Then? Bang! It was all done!

...lol just kidding, I just got to drawing and forgot to take pictures. The background was worth mentioning. I did pencil linework to mimic the hardest visible lines in the background, then filled the background with hatching - except I avoided the pencil lines. So when the pencil is erased, it should leave an inverted sort of background in its wake.

...yeah, like that!

Oh yes, I should mention, for work like this, with more of a gradient feel, I tend to find there is no pen quite like a regular old Bic cheapy - it's pretty easy to get a range of depth, darkness and line thickness from them.

...Not sure how I went so far wrong on the facial structure...my version looks...shall we say, not quite the same.

Special detail I noticed while working on this, was that she is wearing a really cool crow (or raven?) necklace! Now that is probably the coolest hidden avatar easter egg I've found yet!

Behind the scenes, I've been working all week on a detail-oriented avatar reproduction. The first of the detailed series should be ready to share by Monday, but finding this cool little corvid charmed necklace hidden in the details has got me super excited to add this avatar to my detailed reproduction schedule.

Bonus Content: Kinks Two-fer!

Today I tried jammin’ along with some Kinks. It was originally just supposed to be one song, but the next song on my killer Kinks playlist came up while I was saying bye and I felt I had no choice but to roll with it.

Happy Friday my friends, stay well and enjoy the weekend!

Awesome work , Sending love Ecency points♥️

Thank you!!!

That's like the third or fourth time I've heard my handle said properly. Call me biased, but it sounds so cool. Like a harp!

Tough to do a Corvidae and keep in PG-13. = }

For whatever reason, each time I read the word, Kinks, the Transplants played Saturday Night in my mind.

It's still playing.

LOL! Yeah man, the disparity between what it is and what people think it is? Still one of my favorite things to play on here. I think I’ll do it right now in fact.

Thank you so much for checking it out Mr. Days!

Kinks! I made it to the end! And worried about your inattentive driving the entire time.

I love the whippie of Corvidae. I had never noticed the necklace before.

You are a wonder to behold, my friend! Thank you for checking it out! I hadn’t seen this yet when I posted this morning, but - well, yesterday I finally came to the same conclusion about safety…posted a bit about it today :)

I read every word of today's post. I am happy that child made you think about vehicle safety. ♥️♥️♥️
!INDEED

LOL - how do you do it? You are ON IT!

Read, but didn't comment. It's the meaningful comments that take time!

Amen to that! I sometimes take up to a week to comment on posts I’ve read 😬

And the website is working again!

wait - REALLY!?!? I've never seen it! It's been down since I started learning how to share HSBI - Now I know what I'll be doing later tonight!

It definitely took us longer to fix than I would have liked!

it is really a very amazing work

Thank you!!!

I have a striking avatar??? Thanks!!
I actually really like it myself, it brings out the androgyny I feel inside that doesn't reflect as well outside because of all my she/hers.

Your sketches are cute! So accurate. I totally thought you were surfing in yours until I took a closer look. Rock surfing.

I saw a hang-10 too. Zoomed in like, poser!

HAHAHA! Holy crap I had not noticed how much it looks like a surfing pic, but now I can't unsee it! Maybe I'll redraw mine and make it so! ...I can guiltlessly take any liberties I want with my own 😜

You're the only one, the rest of us see a hang-10.

Hahaha! I mean, now it is un-unseeable.

How've you been man? I just got back from Kansas City - we (I) drove through the night last week, we stayed out there for three days for a wedding and then turned around and drove through the night again...I've been completely disconnected during this time - no Hive, not even any drawings or writing. It was nice to spend those days with no devices and just being with my little family - but I'm excited to be back.

I came up with a new idea for my account here. I'll still be doing the avatars because it's fun and cool, but I thought about writing a little book to my kids, and using Hive as the place to write each chapter individually - this way I can write and update the chapters from any internet connected device, and leverage the permanence of the blockchain to make sure I don't lose another manuscript (like what happened with my book on mindfulness that was being assembled and saved on a website (FastPencil) which is now completely lost to time). I think it has the potential to be a decent read for more than just my children, but of course you never know what'll hit and what'll miss. The index for the book itself is located here. I'm just kind of putting it up in short form for now, with the intent to edit as I go...if I wait til each section is perfect before posting, I'm concerned it will eventually just die in my drafts section.

Anyway, hope you're well man, I'll see you around I'm sure.

Crazy how when you disconnect from earth and come back and it's still spinning like, they're killin each other whether or not I surf the web?!

Can't imagine. Is not a song title. I'm 106 pages in to my biggest challenge to date. It backs up daily to usb.. Man, I'm sorry you lost your life like that.
