A day in the life of jacob

in Ecency4 years ago

I remember that day (November 11 2019) I woke up tired and distressed, didn't feel like getting out of bed I simply covered myself up to avoid the sunlight when my sister opened the curtains. I was wrestled up by my younger brother who was 2 yrs old he does that every morning when he wakes up before me,I got up with a bitter taste in my mouth my bone acheing and my body shivering I didn't know if it was because of the accidents that occurred the previous day or if I was coming down with a fever.
The previous day a man was struck down by a taxi from the same spot I was standing on before my friend called me to buy barbeques, the car came unexpectedly and swiped the man of his feet like a piece of paper and he hit the ground so hard people from afar ran towards the place they surrounded him like he was performing a circus act the driver got out of his car but couldn't utter a word he was dumbstruck, everyone was yelling take him to the hospital but no one was willing to.
The fear of being caught by the police with a wounded man mostly if he dies in your vehicle is what everyone was afraid of cause the police will arrest you without thinking twice. The man got but could barely stand a Keke driver came and took it upon himself to take the helpless man to a hospital. Sadly the man gave up the ghost in the hospital he died of internal bleeding cause he wasn't brought to the hospital on time.
The fear of people being arrested led to his untimely demise.
That feeling stuck with me through the night. I did my shores and left the house to charge my phone(due to the lack of stable power supply in the country as a whole) and on my way I saw Joseph my slim tall (6 feet) friend, he has a bad posture deepened eyes thick eyebrows and a dark complexion,he walked towards me from across the street with a smile on his face knowing I was haunted by the series of death that month. He politely asked if I could assist him in his father's farm(a borrowed government land) I had no plans for the day and I gladly followed.
We went to his aunt for equipments and she called her daughter and ese(Joseph's sister) but they were far of so we decided to go on without them while they followed behind.
I followed Joseph without question while the thought was on my mind if the people who died this month tragically made heaven,as we went on Joseph stirred my mood with delightful memories and we had a laugh.

I soon forgot the negative thoughts as he qouted "you can't stop a bird from flying above your head but you can't let it sit on your head".
We went deeper into the bush and it got thicker with snakes around Joseph hit the Cutlass with the grasses the scare them of our path our sandals got damaged by the water which was a high as my chest with potholes underneath which could easily damage your legs and prickly thorns with the threat of snake we got lost after long hours of trekking and had to wait for the others while we navigate our way of the water with aid of large sticks as we moved on we saw an old man carrying heavy loads of cassava he was so old that we were surprised he had a smile on his face while he passing through the water I heard my name and Joseph said don't answer it might be a spirit,he said he saw one while he was a kid but by the grace of God he was saved and warned never to answer the call while he saw no one.
His aunt, sister and cousin came I thought the farm was close but little did I know we were to walk further more. Getting to the we worked from 10am-6pm without me knowing it we joked played and laughed his aunt told tales of old(the wise tortoise).
I forgot my worries my cold and bitter mouth disappeared without me realising it the scenery was magnificent I remembered I came with an empty stomach when we were about to go and in the first time that month I had an experience that took my mind of the turmoils and insecurities. Even though the work was sweat demanding it was the greatest moment I spent with my friend that year and going home was even better the water had dried up a little while we stumbled and fell while pushing the cassava.
His aunt called me to take a piece of the harvest which I declined, and she said life is short some people come to this world they are alive but they are not truly living it doesn't matter if you are rich or poor true success is the rate at which you were happy in this world not wealth we all leave this world someday and we can't take our wealth with us to the afterlife.why not be happy, happiness is free be greatful for what you have and for what is to come.
