One almost always passes in front of the monuments at such a speed ,
that one hardly notices some of the things that stand out the most on the monuments.

It happened to me that I often passed by or crossed a small park at the head of Obispo Street in Old Havana, in the center of which stands a majestic commemorative monument, and I always ignored to whom it was dedicated, because the main figure was not known to me and because of the attributes, it did not seem to me to be dedicated to a hero of the homeland.
I remember that one day, someone, an art broker, gave me an appointment for a first business contact and told me:
Let's meet tomorrow at nine o'clock at the Parqueito de Albear. And I answered him, well, I'll see you there.
I recognize that I am a pure pinareño and that since we made the appointment, my only concern was to find out which was and where was located the said "Parquecito de Albear".
It was supposed to be easy for me to find it, and it was so familiar to me that I almost inquired about its existence in the same public space.
This small park is for me one of the most important of all those in the Cuban capital. And I think it should have been bigger, because it honors one of the most important engineers of the 19th century in Cuba: Francisco de Albear y Lara, a Spanish military man who designed the aqueduct of Havana, considered a true jewel of civil engineering of all times in the country.
The park is simple and luminous. And it is the confluent of three important streets of the old part of the capital: Monserrate, Obispo and Empedrado.
In the center and on a marble pedestal, of several sections finely decorated with allegories and floral motifs, he is there, named "illustrious son of the city" because he brought water from a remote place to the thirsty inhabitants of the city. He deserves all the honor and admiration of the habaneros of those and these times.
In a position of resting on his right leg, while the other one moves forward to synchronize with the left arm, in whose hand he holds a book where perhaps he makes the last calculations of his great work, the Spanish officer is revising his project. The little park of Albear has very little intimacy, because it is too sunny and a constant movement of people to and from different parts of the old city.
That's why perhaps, I who am a Romantic, but not the only one, never sit on its sunny benches dressed in hardship.

Uno pasa casi siempre por frente a los monumentos a una velocidad tal ,
que apenas si se percata de algunas cosas de las que más sobresalen en los mismos..
Como que en la historia oficial, solo encontramos unos pocos referentes de rostros historicos reconocibles, se nos convierten en anonimos algunos sitios dedicados en el siglo pasado a importantes figuras que hicieron grandes soportes en diferentes areas de la vida de la nación.
A mi me sucedió, que pasaba muchas veces o atravesaba un pequeño parque a la cabeza de la calle Obispo,en la Habana Vieja,en cuyo centro se levanta un majestuoso monumento conmemorativo, y siempre ignore a quien estaba dedicado, pues la figura principal no me era conocida y por los atributos,no me parecía dedicado a un heroe de a patria.
Recuerdo que un dia , alguien, un corredor de arte me dió cita para un primer contacto de negocios y me dijo:
Nos vemos mañana a las nueve en el parquesito de Albear,. Y yo le conteste, pues allí nos vemos.
Reconozco que soy pinareño de pura cepa y que desde que concertamos la cita, mi unica preocupación era averiguar cual era y donde estaba ubicado el dichoso " Parquecito de Albear".
Se supone que me fue fácil encontrarlo, y de que me era tan familiar que casi indago en el mismo espacio publico por su existencia.
Este pequeno parque, es para mi uno de los mas importante de todos los que hay en la capital cubana. Y creo que debió ser mas grande, porque honra a uno de los ingenieros mas importantes del siglo XlX en Cuba: Francisco de Albear y Lara. un militar español que proyecto el acueducto de la Habana, considerado una verdadera joya de la ingenieria civil de todos los tiempos en el país.
El parque es sencillo y luminoso. Y es confluente de tres importantes calles de la parte vieja de la capital: Monserrate, Obispo y Empedrado.
En el centro y sobre un pedestal de marmol, de varias secciones finamente decorado con alegorias y motivos florales, esta él, alli, nombrado " ilustre hijo de la ciudad" porque le trajo el agua desde lugar remoto a los sedientos habitantes de la urbe citadina. Merece todo el honor y admiración de los habaneros de aquellos y estos tiempos
En posicion de descansar sobre su pierna derecha, mientras la otra se adelanta para sincronizar con el brazo izquierdo, en cuya mano sostiene un libro donde quizás realiza los últimos cálculos de su magna obra, está el oficial español revisando su proyecto. O creando uno nuevo. como si aquel del agua no le alcanzace para trascender.
Al frente del elegante monumento, la imagen de una mujer delicadamente esculpida al estilo del ideal griego y elegantemente vestida, la que muestra en su pecho arropado el escudo de las tres torres de la ciudad , con la simbolica llave en el centro.
Alrededor del basamento del pedestal, las fuentecillas que hacen referencia al agua y a su vez hablan del numero cuatro como referencia a mas de cuatro cuestiones en la naturalezas y en la vida de las personas.
Bien conservado y puilimentado , tal como debe ser, tambien lo acompaña la presencia de flores artificiales y naturales .
El parquesito de Albear tiene muy poca intimidad, pues es demasiado soleado y de un constante trasiego de personas desde y hacia diferentes lugares de la añejada ciudad..
Por eso quizás, Yo que soy un Romántico, cleto wue no el unico, nunca me siento rn sus soleados banquitos vestidos de apuros
