As a child, the Christmas vacations were just when my father had the most work. He was a merchant and Christmas days were days of selling a lot.
So, being the oldest of my siblings, I had to go with my dad and work hard all day. The company was our business and, therefore, I had to go and make my contribution. I remember going with my father from the age of 12.
Some people think that's a bad thing for a child to do, but I feel now that Dad gave me a wonderful gift as an adult—responsibility, and love for what is one's own.
That went on for many years and I, instead of complaining, enjoyed it very much. The days went fast, I met a lot of people, ate a lot of tasty things, and learned a lot about commerce.
So my best vacations were those I enjoyed working with Dad in the family business.
