💎Si ponen solo un poco de atención, se darán cuenta que mi nombre también es el nombre de un país de África. Por esa razón, siempre sentí curiosidad y necesidad de conocer todo lo relacionado con la vida allí. Tanto era mi orgullo, que de adolescente decía que cuando tuviera una hija, le pondría Nairobi, como la capital de Kenia. Pero del dicho al hecho hay un buen trecho, y aunque hice lo posible, no fue así. Terminé poniéndole a mi primogénita el nombre de Melissa, como una protagonista de la telenovela de turno.
En mis lecturas sobre Kenia, descubrí muchas cosas interesantes. Supe de fósiles antiquísimos, de su gran vegetación y variedad de animales salvajes, que lo convierten en el país, por excelencia, para que los ricos y millonarios realicen sus inolvidables safaris. Además, Kenia es conocida por producir muy buenos deportistas, especialmente corredores. Esto último debe ser (y no le den mucho crédito a mi teoría) porque durante siglos, han tenido que correr por sus vidas delante de algún león o un leopardo en las inmensas llanuras africanas.
Por otra parte, y aquí está el meollo del asunto, descubrí hace años, algo que me dejó profundamente perturbada y con gran angustia. Kenia es uno de los tantos países donde aún se practica la abominable ablación femenina 😢😡(mutilación genital). Este descubrimiento, en mi efervecente adolescencia, cargada de estrógenos y feromonas, me hizo dudar incluso de mi nombre y hasta considerar la posibilidad de cambiármelo en el futuro.
Ha pasado mucho tiempo desde que supe sobre está funesta práctica y aún en estos días se mantiene. Es inconcebible que, a esta altura de la humanidad, con tanto desarrollo y conocimiento acumulado, todavía se le corte el clítoris, los labios mayores y menores, e incluso se le cosa parte de la vagina a niñas, adolescentes e incluso bebés. También resulta irónico e irritante que, en ocasiones, sean precisamente mujeres quienes realizan este brutal procedimiento.
Esta práctica, en la que utilizan una cuchilla de afeitar o un bisturí sin las más mínimas condiciones higiénicas y a sangre fría, no tiene ningún beneficio y sí muchos perjuicios para la mujer. El ejercicio de esta actividad puede provocar serias infecciones que ponen en peligro la salud y la vida de las víctimas, dejando grandes secuelas físicas y psicológicas.
Es inhumano privar a una mujer de sentir placer. El sexo placentero es un derecho de cada ser humano, y es lamentable que todavía existan tantos pensamientos retrógrados e ignorantes, tantas tradiciones erróneas y discriminatorias con respecto a la mujer.
💎No puedo imaginar qué sería de mí y de mis amigas sin nuestro adorado clítoris, sin ese pequeño tesoro que nos lleva al cielo, sin ese regalo de la naturaleza.
Está claro que no queda más remedio que seguir luchando por los derechos de la mujer, y del hombre también, por supuesto. A lot of time has passed since I learned about this dreadful practice, and it still persists today. It’s inconceivable that, at this point in human history, with so much development and accumulated knowledge, girls, teenagers, and even babies still have their clitorises, labia majora, and minora cut off, and sometimes even parts of their vaginas sewn shut. It’s also ironic and infuriating that, in some cases, it’s women themselves who perform this brutal procedure.
This practice, carried out with a razor blade or scalpel under the most unhygienic conditions and in cold blood, has no benefits and many harms for women. It can lead to serious infections that endanger the health and lives of the victims, leaving lasting physical and psychological scars.
It’s inhumane to deprive a woman of the ability to feel pleasure. Enjoyable sex is a right of every human being, and it’s tragic that there are still so many backward and ignorant thoughts, so many misguided and discriminatory traditions regarding women.
💎I can’t imagine what would become of me and my friends without our beloved clitoris, without that little treasure that takes us to heaven, without that gift from nature.
It’s clear that there’s no choice but to keep fighting for women’s rights, and for men’s rights too, of course. After all, both women and men have the duty, to ourselves, to enjoy a fulfilling sexuality. It’s fair, natural, and above all, necessary to achieve at least some of the happiness we deserve during our fleeting time on this planet.
