Love Lock Bridge

in Ecency3 years ago

I've never been to Paris, but I have seen the Ponte des Artes bridge in movies. That's the famous bridge where couples would attach a lock to the bridge and throw the key in the river while they pledge their undying love to one another. I read that the locks were removed a few years back because their weight was damaging the bridge. Apparently, the tradition lives on in other cities though...even in San Antonio, Texas.

In the heart of San Antonio, y'all are gonna find the main plaza, home to the San Fernando Cathedral and the Bexar County courthouse. Two places to get married. In fact, just across the street from the court house is the Court House Wedding Chapel. And right down the side walk from the chapel, is a bridge over the San Antonio River...Love Lock Bridge.

The fences on both sides of this bridge are covered in locks, placed there by lovers who wanted to display their love.

Here's a portion of the Bexar County Courthouse itself

The Courthouse is the oldest courthouse in Texas that has been in continuous operation. It's also the largest historic courthouse in Texas. Before this courthouse became a United States courthouse, it was ruled by four other governments - Spain, Mexico, The Republic of Texas, and The Confederate States of America.

By the way, if you ever visit Bexar County, Texas, don't embarrass yourself by calling it "Becks-Arr" county. It's pronounced like "Bear" or "Bare,"just one of many places or names that non-Texans mispronounce. Hey...that sounds like an idea for a future post ;)
