This sad news garnered very little attention. Like you, I've used it and scrolled past the donations page but this has also made me consider the ways I use the internet and the incredible, free resource we have available to us. I'm not usually one for reminiscing or living in the past but this site is an undoubted historical archive and its preservation is important.
Good on you for bringing this up and let's hope that going forward, they receive improved funding.
As a footnote, wouldn't it be better if archives and other sites that run on a free, voluntarily funded basis would accept crypto as donations? Much easier for many of us to donate.
