Modesty in our contemporary world today

Modesty is a virtue that seems to have lost its relevance in our contemporary world, however, it still holds a lot of significance in shaping our society. Living in Nigeria, I have observed how modesty has contributed greatly to the peace and harmony of our communities. In a country where income inequality is rampant and social status is seen as a measure of a person's worth, modesty has helped to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor.

In Nigeria, modesty is more than just an abstract idea, it’s a way of life. I have seen people who have so little yet give so much, and others who have so much yet give so little. Modesty is not just about being humble, but it's also about being charitable, tolerant, and respectful towards others.

The modesty in Nigeria cuts across every aspect of our lives, from the way we dress to the way we interact with one another. We are taught to respect our elders and to be patient with those younger than us. We are encouraged to give to the less privileged, and to be content with what we have.

As I sit and reflect on the importance of modesty in Nigeria, I am reminded that it is not just a word, but a way of life that has the power to transform our society. It is my hope that we will continue to uphold this cherished value, for it is the key to the success of our nation.
