Weaving for personal use by Thais of Mon descent

in Ecency14 days ago

Hello friends, today I have a gardening activity and went to wash the car, got a new haircut, but I didn't take any pictures of the activities. So I went back to look at the pictures on my phone to see what I had taken. I found a picture from a few years ago when I went to the Wat Muang fair and there was a demonstration of the Mon weaving art for tourists to see the methods and history.

Weaving is an art that Mon Thais still preserve. In the past, women often made various household items by themselves. They wove clothes, loincloths, and blankets for their own use in the family to wear in various ceremonies related to birth, ordination, marriage, and death, which required unique clothing. Therefore, woven fabric is essential for life.

An important method of weaving is to weave cotton or silk threads together to create patterns. There are two groups of threads: the warp threads and another thread called the weft thread, which is inserted across the warp threads. When weaved together, various patterns are created.

Currently, Mon fabric has been used to design clothes, bags, and various items, making them look modern and adapting them to different collections, creating value for hand-woven Mon fabric. The hand-woven fabrics of the Mon people of Ban Muang Subdistrict have charming fabric patterns and hand-woven patterns. With the cooperation of the people in the community who try to preserve the weaving, which is a local wisdom that used to be self-reliant, and the continuation of Ban Muang hand-woven fabrics, it has been able to increase the income of the villagers by selling to tourists.

Thank you to all my friends who have supported me.
