Can Ecency and Hive help achieve your dreams?

It’s Monday evening and I am sitting on my bed typing this, having just had a small bowl of fried mince meat with steamed vegetables for dinner.

I bought a packet of 2 minute noodles, also known as Ramen, while they were on special. It’s not much but it’s always good to have an emergency backup if things really get bad.

The last few days have been around 40oC and it’s been too hot to really do anything. The small one bedroom unit that I live in tends to hold in the heat for a few days so at night it’s often cooler outside.

I have a small USB powered fan that has become a priceless purchase too because it allows me to sleep at night.

Regarding work, I’ve had a few shifts lately and the work is starting to slowly pick up. I do have to factor in that some companies are paying their employees fortnightly and adjust accordingly.

The next pay should cover my rent for the next few weeks and I have a few shifts booked for this weekend and then a week worth of work for the LIV Golf tournament.

Hopefully, things are slowly starting pick up again and there are festivals and events coming soon.

However I am getting close to needing to reapply for welfare though and there is a waiting list I have to factor in.

I’ve been off of welfare for nearly 3 years and I don’t really want to go back on it but there’s a waiting time of several weeks before the payment goes through.

Declaring My Intentions

My goals for this year are not exactly simple or even small, but I know that they are achievable.

For example, I’d like to visit a long time friend in Chester, England. She’s offered me full time work if I emigrated there. I’ve known her for nearly 30 years.

The ticket for the trip will cost over AU$2000 but I will need to do more research, then there’s travel insurance and other possible expenses to consider like accommodation.

My passport has expired and recently the Government jacked up the price to AU$412! It was less than AU$400 a few months ago and only AU$250 before that and even that was too expensive!

I’d also like to finally get my driver’s licence and a cheap but reliable car. Driving lessons are also going to be expensive, but ultimately worth it.

It opens up a lot of employment opportunities that I have been denying myself.

There are a few work related courses that I’d like to do like First Aid and Aged Care, possibly Disability Care. I see a lot of people doing it, rather poorly and it makes me sad at times. These jobs are really well paying.

My Inner Conflict

In the past I have been reluctant to withdraw and convert HIVE to Australian Dollar and put it in my bank account unless it was a definite emergency.

There was also a mindset within the HIVE community that investing should be for the long haul (think HP) and those that powered down were “pump and dumpers”.

I have never powered down HP in the seven years that I have been here because of this, and it’s foolish to dip into investments too often.

I save as much HBD as I can for the interest. I invest in SWAP.btc via Hive Engine occasionally with the goal of reaching 0.01 Bitcoin as a retirement fund.

There is a movement now encouraging people to #spendHBD and it’s one I agree with and if it was possible to do so locally I would.

Please let me know if there is somehwere selling HIVE merch for HBD as I want to support them.

I also like the idea of social proof that “digital computer money” can improve our lives in the real world.

Isn’t that the whole point of crypto?

I once had a post about a McDonald’s icecream sundae that paid for itself in terms of HIVE when it was still STEEM.

I didn’t withdraw it though.

My Resolution

My current activity on HIVE won’t cover the previously mentioned goals nor even pay my rent every week, right now.

But it can most certainly pay for a quarterly water bill of $AU50, right? I just need to keep enough HIVE unstaked.

Plus I can blog about it, which in turn pays for future water bills. It’s a small step and I think can go a long way towards showing both social proof AND keep me away from relying on Government welfare while I can focus on achieving my life goals.

Time will tell, and nothing is guaranteed, but this what I am going to start doing.

Small pebbles make big ripples.

My Goal with hive is to earn atleast 20,000 HP for my retirement. That'll maybe achievable IMO.

That’s not a whole lot of money. You might need to add some zeroes to it.

living here in the Philippines where I can survive a decent meal for $2.00, that maybe enough. I will grow some green and livestock. But with the inflation, maybe 10 years from now, that two dollars can not afford to buy anything.

Well, I'm really new around here and I guess I can't think about Hive as a way to reach my IRL goals right now because my account is still small, but I think that in the long term it will help with some expenses that I would need to make.

Also, I usually think about Hive as a retirement or an emergency fund. A way to save as much as I can so I can use those funds when needed. Of course I will need to have some liquid Hive and/or HBD so I can use it at the moment.

But yes, I think Ecency and Hive will help us to reach some goals on our lifes.

I didn’t mention it above, but Hive saved my life a few years ago. I just need to get into the practice of taking some Hive out for my own personal use.

Hive saved your life? How come?

It's a long story but I sold a lot of NFTs before the market crashed. I used that money to be able to keep paying rent when there wasn’t a lot of work.

Ohh, that's nice. You were able to get a good opportunity when everything went down.

Yes. But I should have sold them a lot earlier. But they were generating an amazing amount of HIVE at the time and I became arrogant.

Their value dropped a lot before I started to pull out completely.

It's hard to know when is the right time to let go some things, so... Don't think about what you should have done.

I am one of those who think that money must move, just like water, otherwise it simply gets damaged.
What's the point of having money tied up and going hungry or suffering anguish for not being able to pay the rent?
In my case, I have part of the rewards to cover certain expenses. I kind of save, but I also invest.
Have you tried liketu? I find it good to share moments and I have an extra reward through that Dapp.

Thank you for this insight. I will need to try Liketu again.

😊 Awwwwn hope you enjoyed your meat

Thank you.
