Can a Brand Identity designer OFFER Brand Strategy?

The answer is yes! (Maybe they are married...)
But before offering Brand Identity as a service I would strongly recommend you to first learn it.

A Brand strategy not only includes research and analysis but also a PLAN.

Before getting started you need to know that being a brand strategist your job is to GUIDE/ADVICE your clients around their purpose, mission, vision, brand personality, target group research, positioning, and creating a plan on how to take their brand from A to B.

Most new entrepreneurs have very little to NO knowledge about branding & marketing and maybe even some business owners who have been in business for a while now still know nothing about branding. This can be an obstacle because they won't feel the need for a strategy.

My advice to you is to "Always open the door with strategy”.
Never start a project without one!
Some strategists advise entrepreneurs to start building instead of planning or having a strategy first. This sounds odd and strange to me because it's basically the same as driving without a map or building a house without a plan and a blueprint.
How can you start with driving or building when you have no plan in place?
What will the result look like?
Where are you going?

The job of a Brand Strategist does NOT include the work of a brand designer. It’s a totally separate service that doesn’t include visuals. So make sure to charge for it separately.

A framework would be your best friend AND your guide so you know what to do from start to finish (to delivery to the client). I would recommend that you find a framework you like that not only gets you paid for your strategic thinking but also your creative thinking.

IF currently, you are offering brand identity design, you can start opening up the door to strategy by sharing your process and not just your portfolio. It will give the client more value, lead to better design decisions and double your revenue. Keep in mind to base your pricing on company and complexity, their challenge, and the value it'll give them. The more complex & bigger the more the value and the higher the price.

NEVER stop offering brand identity design! Instead, add brand strategy to your offer.
More value means more money to you!
