A Beautiful Disaster (Mount Pinatubo)

in Ecencylast month

Mount Pinatubo is an active stratovolcano in the Zambales Mountains of the Philippines. Effects were felt worldwide, and surrounding areas were heavily damaged by pyroclastic surges — fluidised masses of turbulent gas and rock fragments ejected during the eruption.
Mount Pinatubo is the world's largest volcanic eruption to happen in the past 100 years (June 15, 1991)

Below are the Aetas or what we call our "Katutubo" who consider Pinatubo and its sorrounding mountains their ancestral hunting and gathering grounds. Behind the slopes of this scenic view are narratives of the Aeta people’s struggle in adapting life (education, health, food security, livelihood, and more) three decades after they were forcefully displaced by the volcano they believe were punishing them (Apo Malyari) for not protecting the environment enough.

Yesterday, We witnessed the breathtaking and majestic beauty of Mount Pinatubo's crater lake. A reminder of nature's resilience and power.
Conquering the crater of Mount Pinatubo. This view from Mt. Pinatubo is worth every step.
Sometimes the most beautiful places are born from destruction. Mount Pinatubo is a powerful reminder of that.
