16 Ways To Calm Yourself When Life is Getting Tough

Today is another great day to be alive and I believe you feel the same way too or let me say I hope you do feel the same way. For me, I’m just so grateful for life. Sometimes we think that life is cheap just because we wake up everyday. But, you need to show appreciation to God for keeping your life because when there is life there’s always hope and right now so many people around the world have lost their hope because they didn’t live to see this day.

But you did.

I want to share something I saw on my Instagram feed with you today. I just know it will be of help to you or better still someone around you. The truth is that we all deserve to be buzzing and by buzzing I mean having a feeling of joy, ecstasy and liberation. In fact, I'm short of words to explain that word ‘buzzing’ but I kind of feel that you get me.

But, life can be so hard for no reason and we find ourselves going off the rails when life gets tough. So, I wanna share with you 16 tips or ways to get a grip of yourself even when things ain’t going as planned.

Let’s get into it:

#1 Walk: Yea, just get up and have a stroll. It helps in offering you a different perspective on how to see things and arrive at a conclusion


#2 Indulge: Take a day off. Do the things you love to do that day. Take care of yourself.


#3 Be Generous: Giving can transform your mood in an instant. The feeling you get from helping someone is priceless.


#4 Go sit with others in a busy street or coffee shop or better still watch a football match with crowds. Stay quiet and enjoy the moment. You don’t have to be talkative.


#5 Educate Yourself: Anytime I feel depressed, I immediately do some background research and what’s wrong with me. I check my emotional feelings and immediately I look for a motivational coach online that shares tips on how to tackle such issues. I educate myself on my problem, why I’m having it at that moment which in turn leads me to the solution. Self education is key.

#6 Preparation: When things are getting tough you’ve got to prepare. Always get your to-do-lists the night before. By doing this, you are setting yourself up for a good ride tomorrow.


#7 Strengths: Write down at least 15 of your strengths and it doesn’t matter how awkward those strengths are. Write it anyway and acknowledge it.


#8 Keep going forward: Mel Robbins once said “No matter how small the step, forward is forward”. Don't ever forget it.

#9 Revisit an old hobby or build one: Whenever I feel tired with any work I'm doing, i’ve the luxury to switch to what I love, ‘Music’. Or I get lost in different kinds of artworks. The truth of the matter is that having a hobby helps improve your creativity which helps you see problems differently and how to tackle them.


#10 Prioritize: One of your major problems might be that you choked with a lot of stuff. Learn to prioritize. It’s okay to have 20 things you want to do but you must be willing to choose the one that’s important at that moment or better still the one that will give you the energy rush to do the rest. There are some tasks that open you up to do more tasks. You must do those ones first.


#11 Sleep: I can’t tell you how important this is. You need to get enough quality sleep. I repeat ‘Quality’ sleep. No pressing of phones during sleeping time. Sleep early.



#12 Be Silly: Laugh, crack jokes, do some childish stuff. C’mon, life’s too precious for you to be so down and gloomy.



#13 Cry: Smiles, sometimes you need to learn to let emotions flow out through your tears. Don’t pile them inside of you. It’s good to cry at times.



#14 Check your self-talk: Believe me when I say that it is way better to have big impossible dream self-talk than negative self-talk. One will move mountains if you believe in it and dare to commit while the other will make you miserable and depressed.


#15 Journal: This is great. It helps you clear your mind.


#16 Remind Yourself that this too shall pass. It always does. So keep moving. This has always been my consolation and it should be yours too.
