We are celebrating different days and the most we like to celebrate are the holidays. But for us and to students this day the so called MAPEH Day is their much awaited day at school. MAPEH stands for Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health. During this day they will be showcasing their talents in singing, dancing, acting, and designing. This is then the time where they can explore and discover their abilities and interests. There are students being amazed by what they can do.
We “DIY” our stage decoration during this time with the help of our student teachers. This is an economical event where bond papers, glue, staplers, and cloth were being utilized, teaching the students that events can still go on without much to spend.
The event started at 2 o’clock in the afternoon with a prayer and the national anthem. I was tasked to open the program and welcome the participants, visitors, and everyone present during the event.
The students from grade 10 junior high school present the following performances a musical from Tangled, Mamma Mia and Dancing Queen. Another performance from the grade 10 is the cheer dance. They were able to perform the essentials in cheer dancing like the hand movements, the jump, and the tumbling.
An energetic performance from the grade 9 with their zumba presentation makes the crowd scream.
The grade 8 students performed the pantomime with a theme “conserve water”. They were able to perform it well relaying the message to the audience with emotion. Another grade 8 performance the folk dance entitled Sua Ku Sua which is a dance from Jolu, Sulu in the Philippines. The particular tribe who created the dance is the Tausug. This dance showcases their culture and tradition and it is a courtship dance. Sua Ku Sua means a pomelo tree, Tausug resemble their women to a pomelo tree that has slender body like the branch of the pomelo tree, the fragrance and the leaves.
The grade 7 students were not left behind. They performed one of the festival dances in the Philippines which is the Sinulog Festival dance. With their colorful props and costume accompanied by their upbeat steps amazed the crowd.
The MAPEH day was a success because of the participation and cooperation of all the students in Artadi Integrated School. This day might be tiring but a productive one.
