My journey in Bitcoin and Hive has been pretty cool so far. These are the two blockchains that I've gotten the most use out of since I got into crypto in 2016, and it's cool to see them mesh in different ways now.
With me interacting with these two chains the most over the past 8 years, I've noticed that both of these communities are "no nonsense" communities for the most part.
Neither Bitcoin nor Hive deals in with too much of the degen fuckery that you see in a lot of other cryto projects. And if they do, it tends to be done by a small subset of the community in a professionally satirical way.
Now this is a bit of a controversial opinion, but shitcoining is fun!
I know as Bitcoiners we're all about the investment side of things, and as Hivers we're all about the utility, but sometimes its fun just to fuck around with your crypto.
I've seen more of the fun side of things taking place on the Hive Engine on Hive, and I'm starting to see it take place on Bitcoin on side chains like STX, Fractal, and Core.
Even though we're starting to get more utility on Bitcoin with the side chains, there isn't anywhere to talk about those things. The Bitcoin Maxis on NOSTR are just waiting to troll anyone who mentions a side chain with claims of being a "Shitcoiner", and OBC is so new that it just isn't here yet.
But I'm hoping that someday OBC can be the place where Bitcoiners who like to have a little fun can be free to discuss different projects that they may be excited about on their favorite Bitcoin Layer-2s.
Earning a small bitcoin yield is nice on STX. And being able to dual stake with CORE is a cool feature of that chain as well. I haven't gotten into too much of the inscriptions, BRC-20s, Ordinals, or Runes on Bitcoin yet, but knowing there are places to do those things in the Bitcoin ecosystem without crazy fees and clogging up the network is pretty appealing.
Projects like the Bitcoin side chains, @v4v.app, and @vsc.network help bring a lot of utility back to BTC and bring the possibility of fun to a historically "no-nonsense" tech community. And outside of having a little magic internet money, the fun is part of the reason I've stuck with crypto for so long.
