MY RIGHT MOTIVATION TO WORK

The truth is you hardly come across people who work without thinking about the money they want to get from doing a job. But that doesn't mean that people work just because of the money alone, I believe there are so many other things that can act as a drive to people working. So in this blog, I'd be sharing what other thing that motivates me to work besides money.

I actually have a personal work experience. I think it's been over two years now when I worked as a cleaner in a duplex. My first motivation to working in that place was to actually get something doing to fetch me some money but all that changed when I started working there. Before I started the job, my employer told me I'd be working for a month first to see how well I'd perform since this was my first work experience as a cleaner.

I've always enjoyed keeping a place clean but I have never done it as a job to be paid for so I was a bit nervous. My employer was also in doubt because I wasn't looking like someone who could do such a job, he saw me as someone who should be at home enjoying myself. It took me sometime to try convincing him that I could actually do the job and that was when he said he was going to watch my performance for some days.

It was still early in the morning when I went for the interview so I asked him if I could start working that day and he said I could. So he showed me everywhere in the house, every corner and one could see how dirty everywhere was. We agreed that I was going to work three times in a week because of how stressful the work could be. That day I just did a little cleaning in the leaving room before I left. The next day when I went to work, I did intensive cleaning in the four rooms that were downstairs.

For the first time in a long time, I felt so exhausted after cleaning but then seeing how the house was looking beautiful was a motivation for me to keep going and also seeing that my boss was satisfied with what I was doing was also a big motivation. I was so determined to make the house and it's surrounding look lively again so I just did my best and at some point I even forgot that I was cleaning to get paid, I just cleaned the house with the mindset that I want it to be sparkling.

After working in the duplex for over a week, his sister came visiting and she was super impressed with how the house was looking compared to the last time she visited. At this time, the only drive that kept me going was the fact that I must keep to my agreement of making the house sparkle in less than a month or in a month.

On this faithful day when I came to work, my boss told me he was planning on getting married the coming week and he would need me to be around, that is, he wanted me to stay in the duplex so I could help him out with some things that needed to be done. The truth is I would have loved to stay because he actually took good care of me but then my dad would be totally against me staying with a stranger so it was a no no. It was already time to go home to rest and at this time, I was already done cleaning the whole house.

He asked me to talk to my dad and get back to him when next I was coming which was in two days time. I knew my dad won't agree to that request so I had to think of a way to tell him that it wasn't going to be possible without sounding rude. Prior to this discussion with my employer, I was already planning to stop working there because my family was going to relocate soon and it would be impossible to keep working there.

I was already thinking of how to let my boss know of my family plans of relocating so he could pay me for the weeks I've worked but then I was worried because I didn't actually stay for a month that we bargained even when I actually fulfilled the part of cleaning the house. At this point, all that I could think of was not even the money but how to be in good terms with my employer even after I've left.

After the two days, I didn't go to work so my employer called and I told him that I won't be able to continue working for him. I was worried be would get mad but he didn't. He didn't pay me for the time I worked with him but I didn't feel sad about it at all because I knew I was the one who broke my own side of the bargain. It was after this incident that I realized that all the while I wasn't motivated by the money alone but also by the satisfaction I give to my client.

For me, nothing beats a customer's satisfaction because that opens more opportunities for me. Now I have the experience of working as a cleaner and I know if my family had not relocated, by now I would have gotten even bigger jobs that would have paid me well and also given me even better work experiences. But overall, my motivation for working besides Money is the satisfaction of those I'm working for and with.

Do you have a work experience that motivates you to do a good job besides the income you could generate from such a work? If you do don't hesitate to share it either as a comment on this blog or you can as well make a blog about it yourself.

Indeed working on something one likes or is comfortable with is enough motivation than money. It's good that you thought of your clients interest and feelings while you wanted to quit.

All I did was doing to him what I'd love others to do for me and I think that's just the best.

Thank you so much for your beautiful contribution 🥰

You are welcome

You didn't tell your dad about your boss wedding? The wedding period was during the time your family relocated?

I see you like cleaning a lot.

I actually didn't tell my dad about his request but that was because my dad didn't really like the idea of his daughter working as a cleaner so telling him I will be staying there would bring up more talk sef.

And yes, since we were moving there was no way to convince him I should just stay.

I just find myself loving cleaning, it makes me feel happy and fulfilled, hehe

Thank you so much for your comment and stopping by 🥰.

Most of what a job is, it's about purpose. The whole discussing on what you do is what you are. What classify you as an important member of society is because you provide a good or service.
From being a doctor, a professor or a lawyer, to be something that people should recognize, like an arquitect or engineer where people can appreciate the building, the house or the business they own.

Yeah having the right purpose towards a job brings the best act for that job.

Thank you so much for your detailed contribution 💯.

Shows you are very hard working
Well done 👍

I believe no matter the kind of job we do as long as we are well appreciated we derive satisfaction and it’s determined the effort we put to that work

Thank you so much for your kind words. I believe that anything worth doing is worth doing well and that applies to everything. It's sad that people don't give their best into something when they are not payed well even though it's a bit understandable sometimes.

Wow, it is very nice to try out new things, and I am glad you did try out what you like doing. Making everywhere sparkle and, I am not surprised because you are a light that never wane.

Awwn, thank you so much my darling, your words touch my heart and makes me want to keep shining 🥰

Well, keep doing that. You are a star!
