RE: Live and Let Live - Nigerian Youths Cry Out Against Police Brutality

in HODL4 years ago

My biggest question is how bad is the violence in Nigeria currently that they would need such a unit...

And it would definitely stand to reason that anybody running around in a third world country that encounters police and has access to a large amount of cryptocurrency would end up having all sorts of issues.

We need the police or there is no justice and protection for the common people.

However if you got rid of the police like you are asking who is then going to protect the community?

Hi ganjafarmer.

To answer your first question, the case of security in Nigeria is horrible but in different degrees, in the North, they are battling with terrorism, in the South-west and East, its mostly kidnapping and few robberies.

Concerning crypto, Large amount maybe questionable, but thats not even the case, any sign of crypto is seen as a redflag, even while the govt has issued statement that no ones phones or laptops should be searched without warrant, these people act on their own

We need the police definitely but we need it to be reformed from ground up because if we successfully scrap this particular rogue arm of the police force, they will only be reabsorbed into the system under another name. Which is why we need a reform, police are meant to protect lives, I don't think these ones got the memo.

In the case of protection, citizens have been protecting themselves for long enough, states have been requesting for a bill to allow private security outfits that can be called to order unlike the present ones we have but the govt ain't granting the request.
