It is all about consumption.
I remember doing studies about this in university, and that was 25 years ago. It's somewhat depressing to see how much worse and more extreme it's gotten in the years since.

Consumption is the demand - whatever is supplied is done so because there is demand somewhere for it. Goes to show what we want though.
