Sometimes in life, we tend to lose control of ourselves, it's quite easy because we are never at the helm of affairs, there's always a greater force, more powerful than we can reckon with that's always standing by to pilot the ship.
On this road called life, mistakes are made, troubles abound and the solutions are far off, these mistakes don't determine who we are or what we'll be. It just shows a glimpse of what we were and who we were willing to be due to the circumstances of those times.
We can't erase the mistakes we make in this life like we erase pencil on paper, we can only draw a line on them having agreed to commit them no more because just like ink on paper, it's not erasable. Not all mistakes can be nearly struck out though, some make you to scratch and scribble till it leaves a permanent hole in your past. It takes the place of your conscience, whispering words into your ears that only you can hear, reminding you of your indiscretions, of every single time you've stumbled and fallen, silently jeering and saying that you can't do better, that you'll never change but if and only if we are willing to beat all odds and rise again, the solutions to problems we may have caused are scattered all over the earth, it just takes true dedication and determination to find them.
On this eventful journey of life, everyone has made mistakes, everyone has done somethings that we're not particularly proud of and wish we could take back, everyone is battling their demons, trying to face their fears and overcome it, some others though are either trying to avoid their problems or outrun them but we all know that this singular thing is as fruitless as trying to gather water in a basket cause they'll keep chasing you till you get weary and can't run any longer, they'll pin you down till you either gather the courage to fight back or surrender and pass away from your misery.
Most times, I often ponder to what end the dilemma of this life leads to because when the time comes, the grim reaper comes for us all. Rich or poor, nobleman or slave, tall or short, death equates us all. Most importantly, he doesn't seek your permission to come for you, young or old, once your time is nigh, you'll be erased from existence. He is no respecter of persons and to him, age is literally just a number.
Shouldn't the uncertainty of life and the certainly of death engineer us to do better, shouldn't the fact that we only live once motivate us to be better people?. It's quite funny how far we humans are willing to go to cover up our mistakes instead of actually striving to correct them, if only that much zeal and effort is put into the latter and not the former then it's quite certain that the world would be a much better place.
It's practically impossible to take back one's words or actions but it's very possible to try and make amends for them rather than creating more blunders trying to sweep them under the carpet. We can't be two sides of a coin, it's either we're good or we're bad, we can't serve two masters and we can't stay stuck in the middle of the fence. You might say that everyone has a dual persona but in the end, one dominates while the other surrenders. We just choose what face we decide to show the world.
I'm sure a lot of us have diverse views to this context called life. Some view it as a playground; a place to just have fun and live as we please. A battlefield; where we're constantly fighting for survival. A prison yard; with us as the inmates, our troubles as the wardens, the grim reaper as the parole officer and the afterlife as parole, a literal escape from life itself. None of this comparisons happen to be wrong because we're all facing different challenges and taking different actions hence we're all bound to see things a little differently but I do think our actions make up about 70% of how we define life in regards to us and the people around us.
In my own case, I think life is a school, our experiences are our ultimate teachers and every good or bad decision we have made at any point in time has always taught us one lesson or the other, the blessings we get are like rewards for our good deeds (which could be likened to getting good grades after a test), the trials, challenges and difficulties are the test. Every school has rules and for every rule of life broken, there is a punishment attached. Just as a character in a movie I watched recently pointed out:
The consequences of evil deeds come slowly but without fail
Death in this case just happens to be graduation having completed the school of life, whether or not you fail at this school would be determined in the life hereafter.
I could also relate it to a science laboratory with our daily activities as experiments and the results or product of those experiments showing us the best way to live because in every sense, as time passes, we know what elements to avoid or combine to make our lives easier.
Nonetheless, the temptation is always there to throw caution to the wind, have fun to the fullest every single day that passes cause we never know if it's gonna be our last. The most painful part is that we never know who's going next or when they're going, we just wake up everyday to the news of someone's passing (be it stranger or friend) till it's our time and we can't wake up no more leaving others to bear the pain of our absence. That's literally the cycle of life.....sad isn't it?.
I feel like life would always be a puzzle, a code that needs to be deciphered and in the end, just as Jon Bellion said in his song titled, 'LIFE' :
WE'RE JUST TRYING TO FIGURE OUT LIFE
