Did you know that we humans are the only animals who don’t listen to our guts or our intuition?
I dated someone a while back whom I convinced myself was the best thing that could ever happen to me. I was wrong. I always tell people before I give any form of advice that they should never ignore their gut feelings about anything and anyone because there is a reason it’s there. I tell them how every single wrong choice I have made I had been warned but the reason why it happened that way was that I didn’t listen (which I subtly regretted sometimes when I think about it cause what the actual fuck!). Anyway, there’s a reason why our intuition is there and I have realized (for the fifth time since I started writing this) that the majority of humans don’t listen to it. Why? Do you not feel or hear this wrong choice before you make it?
I’ll give you one example of when not listening came back to bite me in the ass. So we moved into a new house recently and in that same compound, the boy's quarter, someone was moving out. His name was John and he was nice and he was very “funny“. Now, when I say someone is funny I don’t mean they make me laugh. I think they’re sketchy and there’s just something about them that’s just odd.

Back to the story, John. John was selling his stuff and I told him I was interested in buying his mattress because I wanted to turn the dining room into my room. So when he was moving his things, I wasn’t home I was at a friend's house, my mom called and told me he was moving and reminded me about the mattress. I called John to bargain.
A little detail here. John wasn’t the only one living in the boys quarters, there was another guy and this guy moved out and kept most of his stuff in the gateman’s room and John also kept a few of his things there including the mattress.
Now, I called John and he told me the price. Mind you, I hadn’t seen the mattress yet so he called a price, and I didn’t argue mainly because I had part of the money. Now, at that moment my mind told me not to send the complete half I had but guess what guys? I did exactly that 😂why? I still don’t know till today.
Turns out the mattress John owned was not even worth half the price he called. We wrongly assumed that the bed he wanted to sell was another one which was the other neighbor’s mattress. I called John, sigh, I still haven’t gotten my money back up till today. I was livid, I should’ve listened but I did not, trying to outsmart my conscious or whoever was inhabiting my body and mind with me. Moral lesson guys…. Well, I’m not typing that out you already know what it is. Bye. Stay curious.
Gut feelings are right more often than they are wrong.
