A new day dawns, and life brims with emotions; facing new challenges is part of our daily actions.
We walk in search of dreams, setting increasingly ambitious goals, where achieving rewards—whether a new job, a new relationship, or a change in how we dress—becomes an essential part of our existence.
Sometimes we focus so much on the big details that we overlook those that have always been there, failing to truly see them. We go through life proclaiming we’re good people, yet we ignore the homeless person who couldn’t fulfill their dreams just because they don’t look the part, or we turn a deaf ear to the elderly simply because their time is running out—only to later regret not having shared more with them.
We don’t know what to say when our best friend loses their father or when our neighbor is diagnosed with an illness, because empathy has been so little nurtured that we steadily lose the values that make us human. We struggle to face our own problems, building ever-thicker layers of hardness, without truly feeling what it means to stand in someone else’s shoes.
We walk down the street wishing for the weekend to rest and break from our daily routine, but when it arrives, we only work harder. We miss our family but can’t bring ourselves to call them and say it. We look at our partner, and the absence of compliments and a complete lack of small gestures stand out. We want to feel accompanied and adopt a pet, only to later find it a burden. We dream of being better, but laziness keeps us from learning something new—be it a language, a song, or a skill.
Life offers us so many options that it’s hard to accept the changes that come with learning from each mistake we make, shaping our personality until we achieve what we truly aspire to, without harming those around us in the process. So:
- Forge your own path without affecting others.
- Fight for and chase your dreams by setting realistic goals.
- Don’t judge people without knowing their story.
- Offer help to those who need it.
- Don’t shy away from giving a compliment.
- Don’t fear showing love.
- Don’t fear change, for it’s usually for the better.
- Respect those around you.
- Accept constructive criticism.
- Face the world without fear.
- Change as many times as needed to become a better version of yourself.
Remember that life doesn’t always give you what you want, but it does give you what you need. It’s up to you to shape those opportunities until you reach your dreams.
I often feel that empathy has been over-emphasised, where people feel that they are feeling the the right thing for the situation, even if they are not. It can lead to damaging actions. However, what I would like to see more of is compassion. Compassion means recognising someone needs help and helping, even if not feeling a connection to that person. Compassion helps the homeless person, empathy feels for them.
Also, it is true that compassion helps; I believe we need a share of both, empathy and compassion
I believe that all this nonconformity stems from a lack of self-knowledge, lack of focus and lack of motives.
I believe that sometimes not everything depends on people's will; the context (sometimes hostile) largely determines part of our actions.
Yes, sometimes the environment has a great influence, but it will always depend on each person whether he or she takes root or falls prey to the vagaries of the wind.
