The Hive Rich List
I liked these posts with some alternative analyses of Hive which provided a much more rounded picture and overview:
Top 200 Hive Stakeholders
Top 1,000 Hive Stakeholders
Top 2,500 Hive Stakeholders
For me, they illustrated a) the existence of a middle class and b) a middle class that was operating, almost unbeknown to itself and apparently randomly, in its own best interests.
Here I am floating in the Hive-iverse among my peers in the Middle Class Authors category. (Source: Top 200 Hive Stakeholders).
The concept illustrated above (Held HP vs Reputation) was refined in the third post to "Author+Curation HP/Held HP" to create the Krampus Co-efficient (KE) as a way of analysing an account's investment in Hive.
Here I am again with a smaller set of peers showing my KE.
The KE was used to create the following HIVE Richlist Table:
Hive Richlist | No KE=>1 | % KE=>1 |
---|---|---|
Top 200 | 6 | 6/200 = 3% |
Top 1,000 | 156 | 156/1,000 = 15.6% |
Top 2,500 | 670 | 670/2500 = 26.8% |
One assumption is that posts that hold a KE=>1 have powered down and sold HP rewards. Alternatively, accounts could have moved Hive into HBD, Splinterlands or other games or H-E tokens.
Conversely, 73.2% of accounts in the Rich List, almost three-quarters, have a KE=<1 - they are holding more HP than they have earned in HP rewards.
Between them, the top 2,500 accounts own 158M HP (96% of staked HIVE) and a further 17M liquid Hive (16% of liquid Hive outside the DHF), together nearly two-thirds of available Hive.
Even in the lower ranges of the Rich List, 66% of accounts have a KE=<1.
The Long Tail
Things become much more volatile beyond the top 2,500 holders. This group - redfish, minnows and smaller dolphins - hold 5M HP between them. This is usual: have a peek at any H-E token Rich List and you'll find a proportionally small group of large account holders followed, very quickly, by pages of much smaller account holders.
How much available Hive is there?
Available HIVE | 326,698,489 |
---|---|
Staked HP | 163,025,462 |
HIVE in Richlist | 17,653,202 |
DHF | 59,400,000 |
Remainder | 86,619,825 |
Of the remainder, maybe 32,670,000 HIVE are witness rewards powered down and sold to cover witness costs, leaving about 54M. So give or take, about 20% of available HIVE has been powered down by KE=>1 accounts.
With about 104M HIVE (remainder plus 17M in the richlist) in the kitty, there's room for about 18,000 more dolphins or 180,000 more minnows.
Alternatively, if everyone who has the means follows a growth plan over the next two years that 104M HIVE will be sucked up by just over 210 accounts.
Conclusion
I'm all for a tidy house, much as it amuses me to be so, I like people to follow the social contract. Like every other human, I'm evolutionarily hard-wired to dislike cheats.
Aside from that, I like that people can earn something on Hive and use it to sustain themselves off-chain or buy themselves some treats. That feels like a win to me. Are other worries about accounts powering down and selling their Hive valid, other than choosing whether to reward them with your stake?
We know, from the analysis, that people who are invested in Hive-the-idea will act in the interests of the group. We need other accounts to keep acting in their and, conversely, our interests and keep selling their stake so we have liquidity to attract newcomers, while maintaining our middle class. That will bring high churn which, together with a stable middle class, is an indication that everything is working.
I think that makes me solidly working class 😁
I need to grow a huge amount before my account is big enough to call middle class......
Not a bad place to be 😍
I think as time goes on, we'll see smaller accounts but with higher values.
Although it's all moot - it's really about what we're going to be to grow here.
We middle class have some responsibilities to the community. I want to see others rise up the ranks and have a good stake. Building up the minnows is an uphill task. We've still not reached that 10k target.
Yes, we do and initiatives like tenkminnows and the Saturday Savers Club are all about that. I liked seeing the big picture, though, good to have those insights.
Following stats to obtain overall feel on what is happening is something to give direction. New arrivals should select one or two mentioned, shadow for awhile to get the feel.
