Summer Reflection #33: On the Couch

in Reflections3 months ago

We haven't done this before, but with the Olympics running late and it being summer holidays, we have allowed Smallsteps to fall asleep on the couch a few times while watching the swimming events. Not ideal parenting perhaps, but at the same time, as this is an "event" kind of thing, it also feels somewhat special and something to remember for us. Little moments like carrying her little body to her bed and kissing her goodnight, feels different to putting her to bed normally.

As they say, small things matter.

I like how those pictures align.

The curve of the neck and the blanket, and the colors of the socks and the bunny. It is nice when two separate images kind of come together to each tell a part of one story. I am not good or smart enough to plan these things ahead, so it is more of a happy coincidence. However, once I saw the two shots in my roll, I knew I wanted to use them both. The foot picture was taken first.

It is only a week away from Smallsteps heading back to school after a very long summer break and later than school-night nights, so we should be getting her back into some kind of rhythm, but we are failing. Hopefully the last couple nights will be enough of a shift back, though perhaps there will be a few grumpy mornings to start the new school year.

Just like her parents returning to work.

I just need all of my crypto holdings to go 20x and then perhaps I wouldn't have to go back to work. What are the chances of that happening any time soon? Unlikely, but you know, it is like the lottery, gotta be in it to win it.

I don't enter the lottery.

But, if I di and I won, I don't think I would tell anyone other than my wife. I don't even think I would change too much of what we have in our lives, other than finishing the renovation and garden. Perhaps a couple years down the track, I would consider buying an EV car. But, I would keep working anyway - at least for a bit longer.

Just to be free of debt and have no lists of "should do" jobs would be enough.

Unfortunately, I am not expecting that is going to happen anytime soon, so it will be off to obligatory work, to do obligatory tasks, so that I am able to meet my obligations and responsibilities to my family. If I can meet them, that isn't such a bad life, is it?

I remember doing that when babysitting my little sisters. Time moves fast!

I've got one more week of vacation after this one, so of course I have to go out with a bang (one more camping festival)! The turnaround though is going to be harsh and swift.

I assume Finland struggles a bit with the summer sports, but sounds like your Aussies are doing OK. They always seem to do well with the water sports.

It does. It would be very weird to do it now perhaps :D

Yeah, Finns don't do well in the summer games overall - but that is to be expected.

Enjoy your glamping!

That's a good call. She might be a teenager by the time the games come rolling around again! I'm just guessing obviously. I think it would be hard to hide if things went parabolic. People close to me obviously know I am into crypto, so once the hype starts hitting the mainstream news, they would have an idea. Most likely we would start having a lot of work done on our house suddenly too.

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to renovate without thinking of cost at all?

She'll be almost a teen by the next games, but probably twice as smart as me by then.

Yeah, I was driving to work thinking about it today. I had been reading about a guy that made $400K so far in crypto and I was like man, what would I do. I figured I would keep $100K in crypto and spread it around a bit, pull the other $300K out, lose $100k to taxes, put $100k in investments, and then use the other $100k to do all the projects around the house we have been wanting to do.

I used to play the lottery by subscription, and I spent my money as if my winning were a given. It had to stop.

May your crypto holdings grow by 2x very soon. Although something tells me you wouldn't be happy not contributing to society in some work-like way.

2x, 20x, 200x perhaps :D

and I spent my money as if my winning were a given

This seems to be pretty common, doesn't it? It is like people feel they are entitled to win the lottery.

I think a child falling asleep on the couch and the parents carrying and tucking them in is a trope done a lot in movies and media. So being able to experience it from time to time is a good memory especially for the parents [the kid might not remember it since they're asleep/half asleep]. I hope you continue to enjoy your Olympics bonding.

It is done a lot in movies and such! We have only done it a few times and once or twice from the car. One of my favorite things was to have a nap with her on the couch when she was a baby. That stage didn't last long though.

An angel dreams.

On the sofa, sweet dreams,
a little girl rests in peace,
with her stuffed rabbit,
She travels to a world of crystal.

Whispers of stars tuck her in,
the moon watches over her as she passes,
And in her little girl's heart
a thousand adventures to dream of.

What a short vacation your daughter has. My children will go to school only on September 1st.
Save a little HBD, in a bear market HIVE will be several times cheaper.

September 1st? When do they start holidays?

May 31. I think the summer holidays are the same in all former republics of the USSR (3 months).

Sometimes the taste of asleeping on the couch is beyond compare, thus let her sleep :)

A good couch nap can be awesome! Though, at this time of night, I think it is better she goes into her own bed :)

This made me remember when I was very little. I’d wake up the next day and find myself in the room then I’d begin to wonder who carried me inside the room the previous night
Sweet childhood memories😌😌

Maybe it was elves.

Hive Power Up Day - August 1st 2024

This is one of my greatest childhood memories and it made me remember when my brother sleeps off on the couch while watching cartoons and we’d have to take him inside at night😄😄
He doesn’t even get to eat at times because he hates it when we disturb his sleep

A lottery!
Well, we have to do our best to get in.
Excellent reflections @tarazkp
Greetings!

It's been years since my son has fallen asleep on the couch, mainly because he's always up and active in the evening no matter how much he has done during the day. The only exception would be if he's not feeling well, which is not too often.

Smallsteps doesn't either, as we normally have her in bed by 9, but by 1030, she is pretty broken and I rub her legs and she sleeps :)

Our son likes the leg rubbing too from time to time. I try to get him to bed somewhat early but between reading, teeth brushing and our nightly talks it usually gets a bit later than I intend.
