From Dawn to Dusk: A Non-Stop Day of School Events

I don’t want to say I haven't had a day as preoccupied as this before, as that would be an exaggeration. I have had several busy days in the past; however, today felt overwhelmingly packed. I had to handle three tasks simultaneously.

Today was the final day for our zonal literary and debate competition, as well as a movie screening for our SS3 students preparing for WAEC. The movie show wasn’t for all the students; it was specifically for the Arts department students. We hosted about seven different schools at our school since it is centrally located in the Ibeju-Lekki axis.

This morning, I had to wake up earlier than usual. I arrived at school around 6 a.m. and immediately started making arrangements, as the movie show was scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. We had to structure it in batches since the hall couldn’t accommodate all the students at once. There were three batches, with each batch watching three movies in segments.

While this was going on, students from other schools arrived punctually for the debate competition. As the host, it wasn’t easy managing both events at the same time, but I had no choice. I was constantly moving between the two locations, ensuring everything ran smoothly.

At one point, I wanted to take a break, but just then, a visitor from the district arrived to inspect our records and other documents. That was the moment I realized I couldn’t escape the pressure; I had to face my responsibilities and continue shuffling between both locations non-stop. Eventually, I took a short break by sitting with the food vendor who was selling food to the students just to catch my breath.

By 12:30 p.m., the first batch of the movie screening ended, and we had to usher in more students for the second batch, which lasted about five and a half hours. Before the second batch finished, the literary and debate competition had already concluded. The competition involved both junior and senior secondary schools in Ibeju-Lekki, and the winner was announced; this school will represent our zone in the upcoming district-level debate.

Once the competition was over, I could fully focus on the movie show. After the final batch finished, I stayed behind to ensure the hall was cleaned and properly arranged. I finally left school around 7:30 p.m., completely exhausted. As soon as I got home, I took a bath and went straight to bed.

7:30pm. Wow, even though the government are mostly paying for you to stay till 3 or 4. I think teachers are the most underpaid people in the country lol. They're mostly saying our rewards are in heaven.

Yes oo, and the payment doesnt even commiserate with task. It is just because of the students if not it doesn’t worth the stress.
