The field and track events we started yesterday continued today, as we were unable to complete them within the planned schedule. This week, the teaching and learning process in school has been a bit subdued as we are all focused on preparing for the inter-house sports competition coming up next Wednesday. While I appreciate the effort to encourage students to participate in extracurricular activities such as sports alongside academics, I believe the timing for this event is not ideal. Our examinations are fast approaching, and with only a week between the inter-house sports and the exams, I am concerned that this arrangement could negatively impact students' performance. If the event had been scheduled earlier, it would have been much better
Today’s activities resumed with the continuation of the heats. The students were called out at around 10 a.m. after attending the first three teaching periods. The focus was on field events, which involved both male and female participants from all the houses.
The first event of the day was the high jump. Each house selected two representatives—one male and one female. The event turned out to be highly competitive and captivating as it lasted for about two hours before winners could be determined. In the boys’ category, my house, Pink House, came third. However, we performed exceptionally well in the girls’ category, clinching first place. This victory made me feel proud and elated.
Following the high jump, the long jump event took centre stage. Here, my house excelled in both the male and female categories as they secured first place in both. It was an impressive achievement, and the students from my house were overjoyed by their performance. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and celebration as we basked in our victories.
Overall, the day was engaging and full of thrilling moments. While I still hold reservations about the timing of the inter-house sports, the students’ active involvement and enthusiasm during these events were truly inspiring. These activities undoubtedly contribute to building teamwork, resilience, and school spirit among the students, even if they come at a challenging time in the academic calendar.
As the session came to an end, we celebrated our successes with pride. I could see the joy and sense of accomplishment on the faces of my students, which made all the effort worthwhile.
