Dedication above everything else

"First comes dedication, then comes skill" - Leonardo da Vinci

These days, everything seems to have to exist for a reason. If we're trying to achieve a goal, we often think, or are led to believe, that it's something that's almost innate, and that whoever masters how to get there will achieve it in no time and almost magically.

There's nothing more wrong than that. In fact, everything we achieve, if it has added value, is because we have pushed our abilities to that point. And rarely have we done it quickly, effortlessly or with a smile on our face.

Let's take the example of an athlete. For them to be able to achieve sporting results, they need to be more committed than the rest of the population in order to bring their full potential to the next level. Without effort and dedication, there is no chance of excelling.

There is practically nothing in which, if we don't give our time and dedication, we can become better than we are today.

And the dedication we have doesn't mean we'll ever be the best.

In today's society, where meritocracy is increasingly ignored, we end up teaching our children and little ones that even if they are less good, they are the best.

I think we should teach our children to accept that we don't and can't be good at everything, or at the things we want to be good at. That it's perfectly normal for this to be the case, and that it's not because they're not the best that they should feel inferior.

But the meaning of what they are being told is exactly the opposite. That although they are not good, they should be promoted, and that they should aspire to the best positions with the best conditions, leading to a degradation in the quality of the services provided, as well as in society itself.

We can't all be included on the same level. It's normal for those who stand out to be valued for this reason, and it's normal for those who don't have as much skill, whether natural or acquired, to see their work valued less. Not the person.

The real problem is when concepts are mixed up. When you take any criticism that is directed at you personally as a personal attack.

We forget that beyond us, there is a whole world out there. We don't expect that world to always match our wants or needs, or that we won't be disappointed, or that our journey won't be harder.

That's part of it. But it seems easier to believe that others have to make it for us. That it's not our fault if we can't fulfill a certain task.

But nobody demands it. Only a dystopia would lead society to internalize that we must all achieve everything! Impossible.

I hope you enjoyed my daily reflection.

Cheers🍀

Always strive for the best! I remember taking a licensing exam in school and the top score in school history was a 248 (98th percentile). So I wrote that number on my mirror and every day I saw that and studied like crazy. I beat it by one point, 249. Dedication leads to success and all kids need to understand that concept. You won't always be the best, no one ever is.

Great quote from da Vinci by the way!

Wow. That is what we can call determination focus minded person! You probably felt so good after that great achievement!

From one in a while I stumble across such great quotes, that lead me to some minutes of introspection and reflection. A very good starting point, like this one was.

Thanks for passing by, and for the comment😁
Have a great week, my friend
