It's been a while since I visited the National Museum of Ancient Art in Lisbon, and I still have so much to show. And I will.
Eventually :)
Dozens of paintings are still waiting for their turn, and as I was browsing through them today, I stopped at Frei Carlos. Multiple pieces by this artist were displayed in one of the halls.
I did not shoot in detail all of them, though they were all pretty impressive in colours and extreme details.
I will start with the only triptych.
The Calvary Triptych
The middle part, titled "Calvary" is 164 cm tall and 60 cm wide. The sides ("Saint Jerome delivering the Rule to Saint Paul and Saint Eustatia" on the left and "Saint John the Baptist" on the right) are 126 cm tall. Quite a decent size, though not the biggest one in the museum.
More info from the museum:
I couldn't help myself and had to catch some closeups of the faces.
Sad, miserable, tired faces...
Next up we have another larger peace measuring 123 cm x 129 cm.
Christ Appearing to the Virgin
A peak to the humans behind:
And a much happier face this time.
Take a look at the gold details on the fabric. Beautiful work!
The last one from the sperate shots:
St Francis Receiving the Stigmata
And another sad face.
I can't help it... For some reason, they are more interesting, and the way they are painted, we can almost feel their pain.
Some other ones that I left for another time to catch the details, I guess.
Here you can see the mentioned "St Anthony and the Child Jesus" which is a pair with the one above. It is the first one in the photo below:

Wow...So much detail, precision, feelings. You have beautifully captured everything! ✨ Makes me regret not visiting while I had the chance!
Oh, so you must go back and have a look for yourself. They look so much better when you can stand right in front of them.
We can see a lot of beauty in these photos. The painting is very detailed, very beautiful
I agree :)
Very beautiful painting work, detailing and perfect place. I wish I could stop by a place like that.😀
It is beautiful indeed.
Time to find the nearest art museum and have look what you can find there :)

Greetings @ewkaw
What an incredible post....the paintings seem so clear and are well presented. That you were able to take close-ups of the paintings turned out lovely for this post.
I especially appreciate the first one and the close up of the single man with his finger marking a place in the Bible...seemingly a bit overwhelmed with what he has read. Which could have been a passage which pertained to the first painting....maybe so...
How about this verse from Romans 5.8...God demonstrated His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners Christ died as a substitute for us. ...
or this verse John 3.16 For God so loved the world (mankind) that He sent His uniquely born Son (Christ Jesus) so that anyone who believes on Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
..or Ephesians 2.8...For by Grace are you saved, not of works lest anyone should boast.
These verses are translated from the original Greek language of the New Testament...and seemed to go so beautifully with this thought-provoking post.
Thank you for opportunity to think on these things.
Kind Regards,
Bleujay
Thank you!, glad you liked it.
I am sure there are info on the bible part somewhere. But without knowing we are free to interpret it as we want I guess :)
Thank you for your kind reply. ^__^
What a great walk around the museum and a good look at these pieces. I was especially interested as I am studying Renaissance in my art history class right now. Thanks!
Oh I am so glad you liked it :)
This is just a tiny, TINY fragment. The museum is really amazing full of paintings like these.

The paintings are very fascinating, it is good and lucky in your place to have a great Museum. This is a good place for visit.
It definitely is a great place :)
Yes, I wish I could visit that kind of place. Museum is very hard to find here in the Philippines, particularly here in the Province.
Beautiful works indeed! Loved every single one of them. Crazy how much details the artists add in these works. My poor brain can't comprehend all that xd. By the way, how much was the entry fee?
Oh yes, they details are absolutely amazing! Some of other paining had the tiniest hair painted all separately.
I can't remember if it was 6 or 8 euro. Totally worth it!
Ciekawe czemu ludzie mieli takie smutne, zmęczone miny na tych obrazach... Chyba życie ich nie rozpieszczało...
