Short skiing session on new-fallen snow - Winter wonderland defined?

in Picture A Day4 years ago (edited)

As mentioned in a few posts before, I've enjoyed skiing a lot lately. And while I run the risk of eventually boring many of you with my enthusiasm for it, there is this saying that when you're in love you want to share it with the world.

And to me, there's hardly anything that can beat this view and experience of freely skiing with such gorgeous surroundings.

Picture I took today following yesterday's snow fall just north of Lillestrøm, Norway

After a couple of weeks of nothing but sunshine and sub -10C temperatures, there's hardly been any new snow fall and the existing snow has instead been able to settle well. So when it started snowing heavily again yesterday, I knew that today would provide some stunning scenery with the trees all covered by white carpets, and the landscape glowing bright.

This ended up being my favourite shot of the day.

What about you? Have you taken some great pictures this winter?

This is how I learned to ski, when I lived in Halden, Norway. Moved to USA and almost nobody did cross-country skiing, only downhill.

That's cool! Didn't know you used to live here:).

My guess is that in the US, you don't have as many open areas that are free to use, but rather relying on parks that you need to pay to enter?

There are a lot of parks, and most are either free or almost free. But as I remember when I lived in New England, when my father and I went cross-country skiing a few times, and there were others out there as well, just not that many.

My mother attempted to go cross-country skiing on a golf course, and was chased off by security. Would think a golf course would be a perfect place, but turned out not to be.

Most people preferred downhill skiing. Just the way it is, I guess.

Amazing photo.

Makes me jealous not bored.

Although it has been beach weather in Tel Aviv for almost a week (my daughter paddled in the sea yesterday), winter storms started again today and there is heavy snow expected in Jerusalem (65 km away).

Thanks! It's so idyllic that I usually feel that the pictures I get don't do the actual experience justice. But this picture felt better!

I wouldn't mind some days or weeks at the beach either during the winter season to mix things up😛. So jealous of you as well then! But guess one can't have it all at the same time.

Nice to hear from you:)

Stunning, I adore snow dont get enough of it (England)

Loved it as well!

Yeah I can imagine having grown up on the south west coast of Norway that had more Atlantic weather similar to Britain where we hardly had any snow in the city (only in the mountains 1h30min of driving away from it)

Damn the jealousy is real, what a beautiful country you have <3
