Hello everyone!
Here we visited the Willersdorfer gorge, it is a floodplain in the border triangle between Lower Austria, Styria and Burgenland (Austria).
Along the stream there are beautiful butterbur meadows (Petasites hybridus), partly with horse mint / Mentha longifolia. Most valley meadows in the area are quite uniform, but some show areas that are farmed more intensively and areas that extend to rough meadows due to different uses. In detail, you can find different types of meadows due to the management and the resulting spectrum of species. Foxtail fresh meadows can be found particularly close to streams and are also promoted by the high level of shading caused by the steeply rising flanks. Meadow foxtail / Alopecurus pratensis and cuckoo campion / Lychnis flos-cuculi occur as dominant species. In somewhat drier locations with less nutrient content, woolly honey grass / Holcus lanatus and sallow grass / Anthoxanthum odoratum are more prevalent, and as a special feature in spring, there are masses of alpine crocus / Crocus albiflorus. Naturally, the driest areas are on hilltops and steep slopes, where beautiful piglet weed-furrow fescue-poor grassland could develop. Typical signs of leanness such as hawkweed / Pilosella officinarum and furrowed fescue / Festuca rupicola can be found on these lean sites.
