Technology evolves in interesting ways, and it changes very differently depending on which part of the world you're looking at. And so does the technology of making shoes in the Netherlands. Last year I visited a workshop setting of how they used to make wooden shoe wear back in the day.
It was remarkable to see how this used to be peak technology in shoe making back then, especially comparing it to the ergonomic designs of modern times. I couldn't imagine walking around in wooden shoes and hurting my feet, compared to the padded shoes I wear today.
They even had different styles between work, every day and formal shoes, with the difference being in the time put into it, the presentation and different addons.
Sometimes it's pretty fun to look at the past to see how far we've come.
This picture was taken with a OnePlus 8T and was not manually edited by me. What the camera software on smartphones does nowadays is another point. The location is at a workshop at Zaanse Schans in the Netherlands.
Would you wear wooden shoes?
Real Birthplace of Pinnochio perhaps ?
So many clogs. 😂 I bet it smells wonderful in there!
Would be interested to watch the process and try a pair on of course!
