These are ink caps, they only last around a day before completely withering into a black dust. I believe the latin name is Parasola plicatilis

Interesting...yeah very cool. Very small but definitely stood out on the forest floor this morning. Looks like you can eat them??
Yeah but they need to be cooked and if you cook them they basically disintegrate into nothing. Also with ink caps there is a toxin in them that gives you a stomach ache if you drink any kind of alcohol after eating them.
Interesting _ i see the more brownish/rotten-ish-looking ones everywhere but assumed they were poisonous. Good to know about the beer too - that might not work out for me, lol
Yeah its just an upset stomach if you mix their toxin with alcohol. Kind of a good trick to play on an alcoholic, sprinkle a bit of powdered ink caps in with their drink... Then they start thinking they're getting too old to be drinking anymore.
Wow, I had no idea. You should write a book! You have so much foraging info - I'd buy it, especially if you paired it with your camping adventures in this area.
Sounds like a blurb book project. Title it "How to get mildly poisoned but not killed in Wisconsin and Illiois" :-)
haha, that's actually pretty good! That would definitely would stand out on Amazon!
