Seriously? - Yes No Yes No

in Seriously?4 years ago

So I broke one of my golden rules and ordered some goods without getting the go-ahead mainly to try and speed the process up for the customer. To compound my misery I logged it as a sale on their account in our CRM program and issued a notification for an invoice to be raised.

Customer: "Oh! That's very expensive? I can get it for £18.00"

Me: "OK, sadly that's the price the supplier has quoted me all bar a small markup."

Customer: "Markup? It must be a big markup?"

Me: "No, I put £5.00 on it. Are you sure it's the right one? Look for that part number you gave me."

Customer: "Oh! I'm not sure? I'll phone them."

Me: "OK."

I rang our supplier and tried to cancel our order but they, like me, were too quick off the mark and had already shipped the goods. OK, annoying, but I moved on and deleted the sale in our CRM program and sent an email cancelling the invoice.

Customer: "Hi Pete, I don't think it was the right one, the man I spoke to didn't seem to know. Can we go with yours?"

Me: "Yes, it has been shipped TBH. Should be here tomorrow."

I went back into the CRM program, retrieved the sale from the recycle bin and restored the sale. Sent an email to finance basically saying "Ignore the last email we're back on."

Customer: "Hi Pete, sorry about this but I have to run it through the Director. Can we put it on hold please?"

Me: "OK, Not a problem."

I decided to wait and see what happens.

Customer: "Hi Pete, the Director says yes so we'll go with yours."

Me: "OK, Thank you."

After pressing the "End Call" button I released a few expletives and uttered the Sales mantra of "Breath in! Breath out! Breath in! Breath out! Breath in! Breath out! Breath in! Breath out!"
All that for £10!

The director needs to be looped in for £10? You should charge them for the time you wasted on the phone with them so many times, that's gotta be at least £30-$40 right?

Mate, you have no idea. I've spent the last two weeks negotiating a £10K deal for a Cisco Firewall (The firewall is cheap. It's the Meraki license that's eye-watering). It started originally that they wanted to renew their current SOPHOS Firewall through us and moving away from their current supplier. Now, we are no longer a SOPHOS reseller, so I got our supplier involved. I gave our customer a price for a 12-month renewal, but then they asked me to quote them a SOPHOS XG230 solution that was about £14K, but they pooped themselves at that and went down the Cisco path; or so I thought? They then came back to me and said. "Actually, we're going to renew for 12 months and look at the Cisco later on." But get this, they're not renewing with us! No, they're renewing with their old IT Support company, so I put two weeks of hard graft in for nothing! 😡

Nice. Thank you for doing all that research we just wanted to make get the numbers since google shopping didn't cover firewalls but now that we have the numbers, I think we're good where we're at. Appreciate the time. 🤦‍♂
