My #blockchainbuddy, @grindan, tipped me off to this contest the other day and as a thrifter I thought I'd offer up a thrift store find from 25+ years ago :D
I got this when I lived in Arizona and, to be honest, I do not remember what store I got this at, however, I do remember buying it so let me paint the scene.
In the mid 1990s I lived in Tempe, AZ. My buddy and I shared an apartment in the ASU area, as he was a grad student at ASU and I was not xD
I was just a working stiff trying to get by and, as such, did a lot of thrifting. It was always funny to me when my folks would come to visit, my dad would sit on the edge of the couch because it was from a thrift store. I'm not sure why, but he was never comfortable at my place until I was older and buying new furniture 🤷♀
Anyhow, one of the stores I use to frequent (now that I think of it, the store was likely a Value Village) had a glass case at the front with nicer items. The items in this case were on a silent auction. Next to the case on a table were the papers with the item names and a place to write your bid.
As I was browsing the case one day I saw this mirror.
It looked kind of old but still in good shape and I liked the metal frame, so I stepped over to the table to look at the bid sheet for this item and saw the high bid was $2. I put my bid down, $3, then continued to shop the store.
If I remember correctly, the auctions just had an end date then you would have a week to go pay for and pick up your item. Obviously, I won this mirror, went in and paid my $3 and here we are.
Over the years it's been up on a wall, packed away in boxes, and used by different family members. In fact, at the moment, it is in my oldest kids closet while she is away at school. I had to get it out to take these snaps 🤫
I don't know how old it is or what kind of metal it is made from but I sure love it. There may be markings somewhere describing these things but I have not noticed them. It would be cool to know how old this is but really I'm just glad it's still around and glad for this contest so I can share the story.

It's so nice that the mirror actually held up sturdily throughout those years, and is still in a good shape.
The metal frame looks cool and silvery, but it's most likely steel and/or aluminum.
Personally, I'd try to find out with a small drop of Hydrochloric Acid somewhere unnoticeable on it qnd see how it reacts, just out of curiosity to rule out that it might be actually silver, but that's just crazy me 😆
In any case, for a mere $3 that's a nice find!

I just absolutely ADORE thinking of how this mirror traveled with you through all of these stages of your life! I laughed thinking about how you described your dad when he visited your place in those days !LOLZ My dad was sketched out by my apartment of thrifted stuff when I was as youngin too 😂
As for the look of the metal, that's a vibe for sure! I like things that have that vintage feel to them, like they've been loved enough to have a story of their own- and in this case, that is 110% true! So cool dude! 💚

Very nice! There are a lot of good thrift shops in Phoenix/ Mesa. Nice finds! I have a bad habit of looking for silver items and Legos. Then I usually flip them for profits on eBay.

Haha, you wouldn't believe how much exactly I missed hunting for gems in thrift stores and going to flea markets after we moved from Holland to Spain and later Budapest (now back in Spain)..
It took until I think last November to finally find some info about flea markets that are held within our reach. We're now regulars there lol. But sadly the one thrift store we found was not to our liking.. I'm sure at some point more pop up though.. just like with the flea markets :)
I have been sharing a few things already lately but have a few things left to share, nice to know there's an actual community for that!
