Hello mga ka-Hivers! How was your day? I hope you're doing well!
I am delighted to share one of my favorite travels from 2018. While writing this blog, I feel nostalgic about sharing some of the stunning scenery located in Carnaza Island.
As I have mentioned in my intro blog, that I once worked in the Philippine Red Cross for almost 5 years as a Community Development Officer (CDO). I was lucky enough that my area was the Municipality of Daanbantayan. I was assigned in the four (4) barangays of Daanbantayan. Two mainlands and two islands which are Carnaza and Malapascua.
As of now, let me share with you the hidden beauty of Carnaza Island in Barangay Carnaza, Daanbantayan, Cebu.
Here is a little background about the island:
The turtle-shaped Carnaza Island has a total land area of approximately 173.5 hectares. It is located in the northernmost offshore island barangay of the Municipality of Daanbantayan. Carnaza Island consists of 6 sitios, namely Carnaza, Daanbaryo, Linao, Liog-Liog, Candionesio, and Pantao.
Each of the sitios has their own particular charm. The bright waters in the northern and eastern sides of the island are perfect for underwater activities.
Have you been to Carnaza? If not, here is the travel guide on how to get there:
If you are travelling from Cebu City, you can reach Daanbantayan by bus or van. The journey takes around 3-4 hours.
Once you reach in Daanbantayan Terminal, you'll need to head to Barangay Tapilon, since it is the jump-off point in going to Carnaza Island. There are tricycles and habal-habal available for transportation going to Tapilon Port.
From Tapilon to Carnaza Island: Boat transfers are available from Tapilon going to Carnaza Island. Usually much better if you will get to Tapilon Port early around 6am to 7am. Since it is a first come, first seat basis. The boat ride is usually short but if the weather is bad and and also the big waves 😅 it might take around 4-5hours ride. Boat fare costs P200 per head. When travelling to the island, you will sleep and wake up to the sound of waves and see the stunning views of the surrounding islands.
After a long ride, I was amazed. All I can say is that the stories about this island are true, from its turtle shaped island, crystal-clear waters, lovely beaches, and serene environment that will give you the feeling of pure happiness.
My co-worker and close friend Faisah was with me during this travel. Our main reason why we were in Barangay Carnaza is to do our work. Conducting health sessions, Basic First Aid Training, and other trainings related to disaster management.
Since it takes time from going back and forth everyday. We need to stay there weekly. By weekends we will go back to our office in Bogo City. As far as I can remember, we spent almost 3 weeks going back and forth to this island, in order to conduct trainings and seminars to the residents that wanted to become a volunteer in the Philippine Red Cross.
These were some of our work-related activities:
Even though it takes a longer time to stay in the island, aside from doing our work, deep inside our hearts are very happy because we can enjoy the island after doing our task.
After our work, we eagerly seized the opportunity to explore the island and visit its stunning locations. We felt that we belonged on the island because we had already experienced their way of life—living a simple life on the island. Since our volunteers are residents of the island, they served as our tour guides on the island. Most of thw island residents turned off their lights starting at 9 pm, their power supply was limited.
Those, who can afford it, have bought solar panels for their use while others have continued to use gas lamps.
But if there is a need to charge our gadgets, we asked one of the barangay official to use their charging station at the Barangay Hall during the daytime.
Unlike their power source, water supply was not a problem on the island. They have access to well water or you may have a quick dive to the their island.
We were so lucky to visit some of their beautiful spots with no entrance fee😅. The surroundings o so you can still enjoy its beauty.

Even though we didn't explore much of the island, I'm delighted we were able to visit some of its gorgeous beaches. And experience the life living in the island.
Though we struggled to get a signal on our phone, it is also a good way to connect with nature and appreciate its beauty.

Everything on the island is worth seeing, so try to capture as many lovely spots as possible.
With the experiences we had,indeed
Carnaza Island is a true tropical paradise that offers an unforgettable escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
With its pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and warm hospitality, this island is a must-visit for anyone seeking relaxation, adventure, and natural beauty.
There is no wonder that many people dream about living on an island.
If I have something to look back that would be my travel experience in Carnaza Island. As you know, I am so in love with this island. I have so many beautiful memories there with my friend. Missing the day that I have to wake up at early to prepare our things for work and after a long day, we will be heading to the sea. I'm talking like still in the island now. Sorry I still have a travel hangover haha.
Nature has never failed to motivate me with its beauty and its capacity to renew people's minds, bodies, and souls. We're fortunate to live in this world. Do you agree?
I hope to return to this island, not for work-related reasons anymore but for vacation 😅.
