I went camping couple of weeks ago, it was raining all night....i had the best sleep ever....
For wind...im sure you know that there is couple of different options to set up your tarp, you can nearly have a proper tent out of it......
I can dig up some old pdfs if you like.....

I love it when it rains. I go day camping in my car sometimes, I love the sound of rain drops on the hood, could sleep like a baby through it. Sounds like a rare treat where you are, not sure I could live somewhere without much rain.
I hope your garden won't be hurt too badly !
Being under the tree slows the hailstone in their fall and make the tarp stay intact I guess.
On way to assure the sleep place could be to put two tarp, one bigger above on smaller inside (same shape as actual) with some room between the two.
Or maybe put some foliage on the tarp to act as a pillow.
Just some thoughts not sure about the usage.
