Just a few days ago, I and my friends (hiking buddies) went to Tuburan to venture into this town again. On our first foray into Tuburan earlier this year, we experienced the thrill and adventure of the Marmol Cliff, climbed the Atabay peak, and tasted the best and freshly ground coffee in the town that was served to us ”from farm to table”!These are the wonderful tourist attractions of the town that left us in awe however we had never gotten enough of the beauty of this town! We were craving more of this irresistible humble municipality..
And so off we went to Tuburan for another adventure to see the beautiful and pristine springs this town is abundant of and to see before our eyes the town’s famous and legendary 200 - hundred year old Dao Tree!
After we got caught by the rain in Mantawihan Spring, our group decided to warm our bodies and be energized, leading us to hike and find the Oldest tree in town! Thanks to locals who told us the direction of going to the ancient tree!
The locals told us that we can find the famous Dao Tree in Brgy Jagbuaya, Tuburan.
I was surprised to discover that the Dao tree is growing tall and proud in the riverside of Jagbuaya, far from I though that we will find it in the middle of the forest.
After we parked our motorbikes, we hiked the riverbanks of Tuburan blanketed with sand to finally spot the ancient tree!
The entrance was already promising us that we would see a lot of huge and giant trees in the river because of the huge chunk of wood that welcomed us, and true enough several giant trees were lining the riverside. They are like guardians standing proudly guarding the river.
The whole path seemed to be a gateway to somewhere magical!
Finally found the 200-year-old Dao Tree!
After few minutes of walking, we finally arrived at the largest and widest tree I’ve ever seen in my life. My eyes went wide, haha I couldn’t close my eyes in disbelief! OH MY! Tuburan’s ancient Dao Tree is H U G E and utterly M A J E S T I C !
It took me a while to process the beauty and size of the grand tree before my eyes!
Standing in the river, the Dao Tree loomed even larger and wider because of its root spreading sidewards! I stared at its sturdy trunk and weathered and couldn’t believe that this was how a 200-year-old tree would look like!
As I stood at its base, I felt humble like a tiny little ant while looking up the enormous tree towering above me! I can’t imagine the countless floods it has overcome knowing that Tuburan’s rivers get dangerously huge during heavy rains.
We climbed on the trees, the roots rather and I felt how hard the tree was. I even tried hugging it by spreading my arm hoping to absorb its energy. Huhu. And I was so happy and felt lighter when I did that!
As I get to encounter this giant and ancient tree, my appreciation of nature deepens. And the more I appreciated the wonders of nature the more I felt the sense of humility within me. I’m just a tiny little creature in this grand handiwork of God!
I wish the three would thrive longer and may it survive the coming floods, typhoons, and the climate change we have.
Long live Dao Tree! It’s an honor to finally see you!
