Está planta pertenece a la familia de las Acanthacea el cuál está compuesto por 16 especies de arbustos y plantas con flor son originarias de América de sur y Central. Son arbustos perennes de tallo erecto y largas ramas que no suelen sobrepasar los 2 metros de altura. Sus hojas son grandes de entre 8 a 12 centímetros de longitud son ovaladas opuestas y de un bonito verde brillante, producen atractivas flores rojas en forma tubular
This plant belongs to the Acanthacea family which is composed of 16 species of shrubs and flowering plants native to South and Central America. They are perennial shrubs with erect stems and long branches that usually do not exceed 2 meters in height. Their leaves are large, between 8 to 12 centimeters long, oval, opposite and of a beautiful bright green color, they produce attractive red flowers in tubular form.

donde el clima sea tropical y subtropical. También es posible usarlas como flor cortada para la elaboración de ramos y adornos florales. El Colorín necesita exposición a semisombra en climas donde el verano es bien templado y a pleno sol si el sol no es tan intenso. El suelo debe ser rico y abundante en materia orgánica, blando fresco y con buen drenaje.
They are usually seen mainly in pots to decorate terraces and also in gardens where the climate is tropical and subtropical.

The Colorin needs exposure to semi-shade in climates where the summer is very mild and full sun if the sun is not so intense. El riego debe ser regular en verano entre unas dos o tres veces por semana siempre esperando a que seque la capa superficial para volver a echar el agua, es muy bueno podarlas una vez allá culminado la floración esto ayudará a aumentar el número de Flores.
Si se excede el riego pueden ser atacadas por hongos y si la humedad ambiental es baja por cochinillas y pulgones. Pueden reproducirse con facilidad a través de esquejes.
Watering should be regular in summer between two or three times a week, always waiting for the surface layer to dry before watering again, it is very good to prune them once the flowering is finished, this will help to increase the number of flowers.
If the watering is exceeded they can be attacked by fungi and if the environmental humidity is low by mealy bugs and aphids. They can be easily reproduced through cuttings.
