Did you smell if the pitcher flower had dead carrion smell to attract the flies? Amazing design to attract it's meals @ipul27

Years ago I had a carrion smelling flower to attract insects here in Durban South Africa, if you wish to see the Stapelia, have a lovely weekend and thanks for sharing this amazing plant.

Hi @joanstewart, yes, I have smelled it, this plant also emits a bad smell, but the smell is not that strong. I also found some dead flies in the plant, by the way. It's truly amazing! ^_^

Wow! What a wonderful Stapelia 😍 at first glance he looks like a starfish, heheh. It seems they are very good at attracting flies. Also thanks for sharing this one my friend, that's super!... ^_^

I thought it would to attract the flies to something smelly, love the door trap at the top of the tube. Plants are fascinating, sometime allowing visitor to pollinate, or simply attracting a meal for themselves.

Stepelia I had was brown in colour, very pungent rotting smell especially on hot summer days and yes had good feeding.... 😄 plenty flies attracted to it.

I think, the smell produced by these carnivorous plants are indeed designed to be a fly's favorite, so it's hard to refuse to perch on trap trap. 😁Very interesting to be able to discuss about this one plant with you @joanstewart ^_^ they are really amazing...

Not seeing them often or having to go find them they are always interesting in how they survive.

At one time having/buying a Venus flytrap in the home was popular, long before all these pesticides were introduced, and no one wanted the old sticky brown hanging thing in the kitchen used to trap flies 🙂.

sometimes nature provides plants that are quite useful for us, such as a fly catch plant that hangs in the kitchen, very funny 😄 but anyway, we have to put up with the smell ^_^ heheh...
