Where Birds And Humans Arrived To Relax

in WE ARE MOVING2 years ago

Reflection Through Time

Built in the style of a Japanese garden crossed with a little botanical garden this was the pride of Amanzimtoti some years ago, since covid, floods, attacks within the park we have not visited in some time!

iLongwe Trail takes one across little wooden bridges into a pleasant forest walk where birds come and go freely. Relaxing walks under canopy of trees offering shade, a stones throw away from the N2 highway yet in the bird sanctuary one felt miles away from humans.

IMG_3060.JPG

Sitting under the trees on well groomed lawns one could enjoy a little solitude hearing the birds calling to each other, sometimes lucky enough to see them, when not hiding in plain sight.

If we do not do something to prevent it, Africa’s animals, and the places in which they live, will be lost to our world, and her children, forever. - Nelson Mandela

IMG_3062.JPG

What became of this lovely park we last visited in 2016, fences removed by thugs helping themselves to photographers camera equipment or anything else on their belongings.

IMG_3066.JPG

Sewerage now fills the small dam which stinks to high heaven, much like many places here on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal.

IMG_3067.JPG

This tranquil spot once served refreshments on an outdoor balcony right at the entrance (which was free of charge) over looking the dam. Many fund raising organizations used this spot on a rotational basis over weekends supplying visitors with refreshments, money then used back into the community they served.

IMG_3068.JPG

Birthday parties for children another highlight of yesteryear where children were able to feed the ducks, learn more about nature. Wedding photography, birthday get together with pensioners from old age homes close by....

Small antelope roamed through here, with more snares, hooligans all has disappeared, animals, humans and bird life.

IMG_3069.JPG

Reflecting over how many of our parks are falling to similar fate, many still voluntarily removing snares, dirt, fighting municipalities regularly to face destruction will this ever become a little paradise once again?

The garden is really beautiful and it's funny to say birds and humans relax there.

Birds and humans could relax, all the small antelope would be on high alert for people going through during the day, only open during daylight hours.

It's a shame that people want to have a beautiful nature but then don't care.
What a lovely place this was and still could be, so sad.

We have about 7 parks very close to us all in similar condition, very sad since some we were able to go with dogs for walks and feel totally safe. Or as in the case with this park no dogs, but hours of enjoying bird watching.

I have heard of such places of which the local people took care when the authorities or the government didn't do anything to keep them nice and clean.

We have some now younger generation going out removing snares, whenever we walk we pick up plastic to remove it from the area, ongoing!

!BEER

That sounds great and we all should do that, but to be honest I have to say that I don't clean other peoples trash ... however, I don't leave any rubbish behind.

Beautiful nature, it's great to be able to travel to a place like this

Tranquil spot to enjoy on border of town, now development has grown it is still well worth preserving for the future.

!LUV give nature a chance to survive!

Such a beautiful area and such a shame that it is being let spoil and get run down so sad

Thanks for joining the Wednesday, its always fun for me to visit the walks from all around the world, getting a feel for communities where people live and what they see on their daily walks

Twenty years ago people took pride in places like this, sad it is not being carried forward, new mindset.

Ohh yes indeed todays mindset has totally changed and for the worse sadly

It sad that the sewerage now fills the dam.
It is still pretty, nonetheless!
!LUVThe Bird Sanctuary is so beautiful, @joanstewart!

It's so sad and revolting. what can we do? that's what I ask myself in front of such spectacles....

Parks Board run by our Municipalities have the rate payers pay for this.

Should arrange new security fencing, permanent security guard, gardeners/cleaners go in regularly. Water sewerage is a bigger problem due to their neglect not doing maintenance over last 30 years.

I understand :(

This is a beautiful spot Joan, always love the greenery KNZ provides. Hopefully, the place is preserved for future generations.

!PIZZA

Sure to hope the Municipality steps up to maintain properly, perhaps change in 2024 is the only answer.

!LUV

Love the greenery sorrounding😍

Lush green, full of life a very pleasant place.

Many beautiful places face a sad fate if people behave like people and destroy what they did not create.

Thank you for entering the contest.

It is a handful that come from neighbouring towns to lay snares or do their own bidding which makes the region dangerous going in to visit.

Water is a massive problem here since the floods, no one is getting on top of the problem which is affecting towns all along the coastline here.

Thanks for the visit @bucipuci

Wow! This place is so relaxing. Indeed not only humans feel safe in here but those different birds who is free to fly and live in here.

150 species of birds have been identified in this little park, when neglected they will find other places to enjoy, birds don't enjoy toxic water.

150 pieces? Wow! That's so many

This is a sad story. Green spaces with flourishing wildlife seem to be in diminishing supply everywhere. Hopefully through education and some hard work these places can once again be beautiful and flourishing with life.

Residents need to collaborate and fight for what they have inherited from earlier generation. Too many places are being trashed, too many malls built bringing people into small coastal regions from further afield, not sustainable!

Awesome work @joanstewart! You're well on your way to reaching your Hive goals. Keep buzzing!

Africa is so beautiful. Lots of nature and forests and your photos are all pretty.

Green spaces need to be tended to, keep them viable for future generations to enjoy.

I agree 🍂🍃🍃

We appreciate your work and your publication has been hand selected by the geography curation team on behalf of the Amazing Nature Community. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for visiting and ongoing support, have a wonderful new week!

It is a beautiful place and looks very peaceful, it is unfortunate that it is not preserved. Sometimes people move away from nature and do not give it importance and the authorities in charge of these spaces abandon them.
Hopefully the park you knew and remember fondly will be what it was again and even better. In Venezuela there are also some natural parks that are not protected as they should be.
Greetings @joanstewart

Small regional parks were looked after by municipalities from rates and taxes money. Funds are stolen or misappropriated, vandalize parks, everything falls into a state of disrepair in no time at all.
