One of the ways that I like to occupy myself is to feed the birds. I keep my bird feeders well stocked up and enjoy watching the birds feeding from them. I occasionally get a visit from one of the local cats, but the feeders are in quite open and exposed areas, and so far, I haven’t seen any cat catch one. Although the local sparrowhawk has taken the odd pigeon on occasions.
The other morning, I was making a cup of tea when I heard a bit of a commotion outside. I looked out of my kitchen window to see this fox trying to catch one of the pigeons. He was unsuccessful. I managed to get a few pictures of him after his failed attempt, although, as you can see, they are not the best of photos because I had to take them through my window. As soon as he saw me, he was gone.
I have always lived close to the countryside, and until recently, only rarely in my 64 years have I seen a fox. All seemed to change when the government banned hunting foxes with dogs. Since then, more and more of them have moved into our towns. They can be a pain in some urban areas. But I quite like to see them.
Last year, a pair of foxes decided to make their home under our garden cabin. We were treated to seeing their cubs in our garden. I managed to get some photos of them using a camera trap.
Unfortunately, my grandchilden got too close to them and we didn't see them again. We had hoped they would return this year to have cubs, but they didn’t. Although I have a suspicion that they may still have a den under the garden cabin. It is possible that the fox trying to catch the pigeons is one of them.
