Snow Day
We had our first snowstorm yesterday. Although we've already had a few snow days this year, yesterday's was the most substantial so far. We had to shovel snow several times. Schools and some businesses were closed yesterday. The snow was wet and heavy, which I found challenging for shovelling. I prefer the light, powdery snow.
In my hometown in Japan, we experience even more snow. The first snowfall occurs in October or November in the mountains. By December, we accumulate 600cm (19 feet 8 inches) of snow annually. We get even more in January and February. People shovel snow almost every day, sometimes multiple times. Schools and offices usually don't close. Occasionally, transportation might be affected, but normally, people carry on with their activities.
My dog looked incredibly excited outside. During our walk, we saw beautiful trees covered with thick, heavy snow, including plants, trees, and trucks.
Our mudroom was covered in snow. We couldn't see outside well due to the snow.
Yay! My dog dashed outside.
It looks like shaved ice, known as 'Kaki gouri (かき氷)' in Japanese. The snowflakes look beautiful.

These are beautiful red rosehips, and they too are covered in snow.
This is a common issue for us in winter. After the snowplow passes, our driveway gets covered with thick frozen snow. Getting our cars out isn't easy unless we shovel. This snow is typically very heavy, hard, and thick.
This is my favourite birch tree in our driveway.
We had to dig out our car as well.

雪の日
昨日は今年初の大雪でした。すでに何度か雪がふっているのですが、今回のは一番大雪でした。雪かきを何回かする必要がありました。昨日は、学校やビジネスが休校や休みになっていました。昨日の雪はベタ雪で重たかったです。ベタ雪は雪かきが大変なので、軽いパウダースノーがいいです。
日本の故郷ではもっと雪が降り積もります。１０月や１１月にはもう山には雪が降り積もります。１２月くらいまでには約６００センチくらい積雪量があります。１月、２月にはさらに降ります。学校や会社は、そう簡単には休校も休みにもなりません。交通機関もよほどのことがない限り止まることはありません。住民も休むことなく活動し続けます。
私の犬は外でものすごく喜んでいます。散歩中、植物、木々、トラックなどあらゆるものが重たくて分厚い雪で覆われていました。
土間の部分が雪に覆われていました。雪で外の様子がよく見えませんでした。
イェーイ！ 私の犬は嬉しそうに駆け出しました。
降り積もった雪がかき氷のようです。雪の結晶がとても綺麗ですね。
重たい雪が庭の木の上に降り積もっています。
洗濯物干しのラインも綺麗に雪で覆われています。
遊びましょう！ と言っています。

私道の入り口の木々も雪に覆われています。
道路が真っ白です。
おっ、向こうから除雪車がやってきます。私の犬はトラックを見るのが好きです。除雪車の仕事ぶりを間近で眺めました。
全てが真っ白と灰色です。
ここはリードを外して遊べるお気に入りの場所のひとつです。
コマツのトラクターも雪に埋もれていました。
きれいなローズヒップも雪の下です。
これは雪国に住む人あるあるの問題です。除雪機が通った後は、私道の入り口が厚くて硬い雪で塞がれてしまいます。車を出すにはこの雪を雪かきしなければならないのですが、重くて硬くて一苦労です。
これはお気に入りの白樺の木です。
車も掘り起こさなければなりませんでした。

I never experienced having snow but looking at everything covered with snow, I'm sure that it's very cold there but the dog seems not feeling it. The trees covered with snow look beautiful. I love those photos of it.
Yeah, the trees look very beautiful. I love watching the trees covered with snow but it's very cold here. I hope it will melt soon because usually, we don't have stable thick snow until January.

South Africa sounds very interesting! We are in totally opposite situations! I like warm weather but I like to have snow. I know it's contradictory but I like the pureness of white snow. However, I don't want to do snow shovelling all the time!

What a stunning display of snow, the dog looks like he really is loving it, rosehips a delightful display in contrasting colours. How very much I envy you the clean white snow, living in South Africa it's something seldom seen, unless you plan to drive into a region when snow is falling.

Thank you! It was a beautiful snowstorm like this. However, we recently had rain and a storm, so all of the snow melted and disappeared. This is our typical beginning of winter. Soon, we will have another big snow day, I guess. South Africa sounds very warm and like a nice place to relax in winter. Interestingly, we have totally different weather in different places around the world.
Snow melt makes everything messy, really hope the next clean snow cover arrives soon to brighten the area up once again.
Living sub-tropical part of the country on the coast we still very slight changes between the seasons, I prefer our winter being more comfortable temperatures to live in.
