El Guácharo National Park was declared a national patrimony on May 27, 1975, exactly 47 years ago, with the purpose of guaranteeing the natural continuity of the geological and biological processes that take place in this natural monument.
La cueva del Guácharo fue explorada por un reconocido amante de la naturaleza alemán Alejandro de Humboldt. Alejandro en el año 1799, realizando un grandioso recorrido a la cueva, descubriendo a los murciélagos, a los cuales denominó con el nombre científico, “Steatornis caripensis”, esto es, “pájaro aceitoso del Caripe”.
The Guácharo Cave was explored by a renowned German nature lover Alexander von Humboldt. Alexander in the year 1799, making a grandiose tour of the cave, discovered the bats, which he called with the scientific name, "Steatornis caripensis", that is, "oily bird of Caripe".

La cueva del Guácharo es sin duda una de las cavernas más fascinantes para los exploradores y científicos. Además de los turistas, este monumento se encuentra ubicado específicamente en la región oriental de Venezuela, estado Monagas, Caripe. En la cueva del Guácharo se puede observar la formación de estalactitas y estalactitas, estas son formaciones de rocas que impresionan a los visitantes, debido a su formación. Estas formaciones son depósitos de materiales que se da por la precipitación química, este tipo de formaciones se debe a los depósitos en las cuevas de la roca caliza.
The Guácharo Cave is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating caves for explorers and scientists. In addition to tourists, this monument is located specifically in the eastern region of Venezuela, in the state of Monagas, Caripe. In the Guácharo Cave you can observe the formation of stalactites and stalactites, these are rock formations that impress visitors because of their formation. These formations are deposits of materials that are given by chemical precipitation, this type of formations are due to deposits in the caves of limestone rock.
Una forma de diferenciar los nombres de estas formaciones es que la estalactita nace desde el techo, creciendo de forma descendente. Mientras que la estalactitas crece desde el suelo en forma ascendentes, se dice que su formación se debe al cúmulo de agua filtrada.
La extensión en kilómetros de la cueva del Guácharo es de unos 10.2 km, pero el acceso a los turistas es de tan solo 1.2 km, los cuales sin guiados por personal que labora en la cueva, encargándose de velar que se respete este monumento natural. Para el disfrute de este recorrido se debe pagar un pequeño aporte el cual servirá para el resguardo de este parque. Debes de tener en cuenta que no se permite la entrada a niños menores de 5 años. Ten en cuenta que debes llevar ropa comoda, botas preferiblemente de suela antiresbaladizas, un sueter de manga ya que el clima es fresco unos 19 grados celsius.
One way to differentiate the names of these formations is that the stalactite is born from the ceiling, growing downward. While the stalactite grows from the floor in an ascending manner, it is said that its formation is due to the accumulation of filtered water.
The extension in kilometers of the Guácharo Cave is about 10.2 km, but the access for tourists is only 1.2 km, which are guided by personnel who work in the cave, in charge of ensuring that this natural monument is respected. El Guácharo es un ave nocturna, por lo tanto una de las recomendaciones al entrar a la cueva es no usar linternas y mucho menos usar la luz de los teléfonos celulares. Durante el recorrido puedes observar diferentes tipos de especies de aves, murciélagos, insectos, tales como arañas y ciempiés. El paseo o recorrido te lleva a varios salones o galerías, la primera galería es aquella en la cual se podrá observar una placa la cual lleva el nombre del famoso científico alemán Alejandro Humboldt. Seguidamente luego de haber pasado por ese salón en el cual puedes observar los Guácharo descansando o haciendo sus nidos, viene el salón del silencio, esta parte de la cueva es todo lo contrario de la anterior, el silencio te permite escuchar el sonido del agua que atraviesa la cueva, si continuas con la caminata te encontrarás con otro salón o galería de la cueva, la cuál los guias le dan el nombre de el salón de los pechos, si observas muy detenidamente podrás ver la figura de una mujer y por supuesto sus pechos resaltan, esta quizás sea la razón de su nombre.
The Guácharo is a nocturnal bird, therefore one of the recommendations when entering the cave is not to use flashlights and much less use the light of cell phones. During the tour you can observe different species of birds, bats, insects, such as spiders and centipedes. The walk or tour takes you to several halls or galleries, the first gallery is the one in which you can see a plaque which bears the name of the famous German scientist Alexander Humboldt. Then after passing through this room where you can observe the Guácharo resting or making their nests, comes the room of silence, this part of the cave is the opposite of the previous one, the silence allows you to hear the sound of water flowing through the cave, If you continue with the walk you will find another room or gallery of the cave, which the guides give the name of the room of the breasts, if you look very carefully you can see the figure of a woman and of course her breasts stand out, this may be the reason for its name.
